mistake

ok I'm sure I did something wrong but I don't know what. right first ever pipe and I couldn't get it to stay lit at all. Now I've looked up this problem and I think it was either not packed enough or too much. I only really smoke cigars and the draw on the pipe was very loose compared to a cigar if that helps almost like i cut the cigar in half. the tobacco was erinmore and when it did work like when I had the lighter on it, it wasn't an unpleasant experience although this morning I can't feel my tongue

Pipe smoking is quite the learning curve. Could also be the moisture. Im at work at the moment so cant post too much.

Best advice is watch YouTube vids and stick at it and you will crack it.

I second vtgs post. It's a work in progress, stick with it you'll learn quickly

It's trial and error . Good videos online. You will get false lights and best thing is tamp it down and it will light . The ash keeps it lit. It will come together eventually stick with it

I would say it was maybe due to nog tamping whilst smoking , sounds as if it was packed OK if smoked OK with a light , but you need to gently tamp the tobacco down so the ember keeps in contact with the tobacco , especially if you've packed too gently . I'd suggest watching Bradley's. stuff and things , guide to pipe smoking on YouTube

Packed too tight and maybe too loose, as for the tongue bite could be the tobacco being too mild or you puffing too quickly
trying not to let the pipe go out.
