The joys of tobacco

I have been smoking my pipe a lot recently and discovering the joys and varied flavours that pipe tobacco has to offer. When I first smoked cigars I really enjoyed the different experience and taste of the stick. While at work I was speaking to someone and happenend to mention that I enjoyed smoking a pipe as well as cigars and that had I known of the variety of flavours of pipe tobaccos all those years ago I would have most certainly given up cigarettes long before I did. Any other thoughts on this would be good to read.

Pipes are an excellent and varied experience. Pipe tobacco has more or less replaced NC's for me.

As packing a pipe is down to the individual you can control a lot of smoking consistency.

And theres a hell of a lot of really good tobacco out there.

Yes you're right Tony, of the few I have tried I really enjoy Bagpipers dream,Macbaren seven seas Royal,Bobs chocolate flake and some of the GQ blends ( well the three I have tried so far) I do like GQ as they sell blending tobacco which is really useful. I tried a Kendal mix shag but didn't like it and as I'm Scottish and don't like to throw money away I decided to do a bit of a blend with it, so added some burley, black cavendish, Latakia and some dark fired off cuts. It's in a tub with some Jura single malt to top it off. So far it tastes really nice. Thanks for the recommendation on that shop vtg.

Spent a decent amount of money paul trying an ounce of this and an ounce of that of loose tobacco's
some were nice some were not, the ones I didn't like much put them in a mason jar all mixed up and to tell you the truth
after blending them together they weren't too bad if I'm honest.
These days I tend to buy less aromatic tobacco's more into my flakes.

I have a scraps jar too, and you're right it does taste good. I've only tried two flakes so far, bobs chocolate and best brown from Gawith. I have another on order, Gawith Hoggarth number 7 broken flake I think. I have tried the dark fired off cuts too which are basically scraps from the factory, not too bad tasting. Still got lots to try and plenty of time to try

stopped buying Samuel gawiths tobacco years ago all their tobacco's seem too damp takes for ever trying to dry it.
Gawiths is more better and a lot more choice to choose from in my opinion.

Most retailers sell a "Pensioners Mix" which is exactly a scrap jar as you guys are talking about.

The end result is normally a fairly well balanced completely smokeable blend.

Gawiths is more better and a lot more choice to choose from in my opinion.

Unless i'm mistaken they are now the same company made in the same factory after a recent merger.
