I've never posted before about pipes, but I must ask, I appreciate the tobacco is in 'slices' what do you need to do to make it fit for smoking?

Couple of options Roy , you can fold the rolls slightly broken into the pipe which would produce quite a slow long smoke or completely rub them out and fill your pipe which will create more traditional ribbon tobacco.
I smoke plug tobacco a lot which involves cutting flakes from a solid brick of tobacco , you can cut cubes with plug which does create a very long slow burning bowl full.

I had never seen the rolls before, but I have a memory of my Grandpa cutting pieces from a block.

was just "passing by" my local tobacconist today and also picked up a tin of dunhill deluxe navy rolls. just opened the tin and wow what an aroma.

yet to be able to sample them yet, maybe in a few days
