New pipe

So, having bought a corn cob pipe and enjoying a few smokes with it, I decided that I wanted a 'proper' pipe, so I had been keeping an eye on a few cheap ones on eBay and picked myself up a brand new Lorenzo Chiara for ?12.50 + ?2 or 3 P&P. It's nothing spectacular, but I like it :-)

It arrived on Friday, so I had half a bowl on Friday evening and I'm enjoying my 2nd half bowl right now.

Hoping to get to the B&M at some stage this week and pick up a few new tobaccos to try.

I can definitely see myself getting carried away picking up new pipes and tobaccos! Lol.

Well the only thing I have to compare it to is the corn cob, but this is definitely better than the cob. The draw is a little harder with the filter thing in the middle of the Lorenzo, but it still smokes better than the cob. I got in touch with a fella that recently got out of the hobby and picked up a few new tobaccos all either unopened or only had 1 or 2 bowls taken out of it. The 2 pouches contain 9 x 5g sample packs - 1 pouch is all aromatics and the other is traditionals. I'm having a bowl of the Irish whiskey at the minute and loving it.

I have never seen that Devils Holiday before, a quick search suggests it's German.

Let us know what you think when you get around to smoking it.

Had a very small bowl of the Devil's Holiday tonight. I really liked it. As soon as you open the tin, the smell of berries hits you in the face. Very strong odour from the tobacco! I suspect it would be too sweet for most folk, but I definitely enjoyed it.

One challenge I have with the pipe is that when I pack it and am about to light it, there is a 'burnt' smell from the pipe. I clean the pipe fairly thoroughly after each smoke, but still experience this. Is that normal?

Hmm burnt you say? Pipes will naturally "ghost" slightly unless your salt and alcohol cleaning them all the time (not advisable) but if we're talking burned as in, burning wood.... You could be smoking it too hot perhaps?

I suppose its hard for me to tell because I'm still new to it, but I'll just have to experiment with smoking slower I think.
