His post only mentioned letting a small amount rest in a jar :P
I was thinking more long term, because I imagine you'd build up a little bit of a collection of different tobaccos and some of it may sit a long time before it's finished.

I didn't dry box the tobacco or anything - took it straight from the pouch and packed it into the pipe. I will experiment over time with leaving tobacco out a while before packing etc.

that's honestly even more impressive. very nicely done!!

as for storage: Rascal has the right idea up there in post 13^^
Mason Jars, Rubber laced tupperwares, or even two ziplock bags do the trick.

        In Other Words!

I guess I could have been more clear in my post (#10). "Rest" as I use the term, is synonymous with "storing." Nothing easier than getting a box of 1/2 pint mason jars, sterilizing 'em in the dish washer before storing your finest 'baccy in 'em. Easy to label and date, too.

And I like they way they look sitting next to my....umm, I mean, don TJ's pipe collection.

        That's what I do, anyways...

I like the idea of using those jars to store the different tobaccos in. I'll have a look online and see if I can pick up a few of those jars somewhere. Are any of the 'supermarket' pipe tobaccos any good to try at this stage? I'll not get to my local B&M for at least 2 weeks, so was thinking of picking something up from Asda, Tesco or somewhere. The only pipe tobacco I can remember seeing was Condor (long cut in brown pouch, blended in the white pouch or the green pouch - thing this is 'ready rubbed' or something). I assumed this wouldn't have been up to much, but after a search on this forum, I've seen mention of it a few times and not all bad. Are there any other pipe tobaccos that I might find in a Asda or Tesco or the likes?

methinks we're talking about two different BnMs here.
I'm talking about a Bricks n' Mortar establishment that sells tobacco... but i still vouch for online vendors.

Sainsburys sell the pukka Kilner ones for a few quid each.

Ordered myself a tamper tool on Sunday evening and it arrived today. Also ordered a new Lorenzo pipe last night. Hoping it arrives before the end of the week.

Any thoughts on which supermarket tobacco would be worth buying to keep me going until I get back to my local B&M in a couple of weeks time?

Wilko's too and usually slightly cheaper (unless Sainsbury's has another sale on Kilner jars).

I need to pick up some st Bruno sometimes as I've never tried it but it was always my granddad's pouch of choice.

So long as you judge it for what it is, it's great!

I guess I'm using the delayed gratification technique on pipe smoking myself, yet to pick one up...
