Possibly, depends how much of a tolerance you have to vitamin N. Are you hydrating before bed? Sounds like your a bit dehydrated.

I sometimes find that a snuffle first thing in the morning gets things going a bit. The Wilsons of Sharrow I have previously mentioned certainly clears the head and livens things up but I think it has more to do with the intense dribbling and salivating caused by the menthol etc. than nicotine. I used the W of S this morning for the very purposes of clearing a thick head and it worked well.

Gawith Hoggarth Lakeland, again similar to the other two in there range I have tried. I'm starting to wonder if they are pedaling the same base mixture with very minor changes.

You could be right, there's every reason for a snuff manufacturer to buy the base and blend it accordingly. The manufacturer doesn't have the cost of running a mill, only the blending process. Conversely, the mill, if supplying to more than one maker, focuses on milling only, and large quantities too.
It makes business sense.

After reading about the snuffing adventures I want to have a go I am visiting my smoking shop tomorrow to get a selection. Anything I should try ?

Not having tried many snuffs, I keep returning to the McChrystals Original because it is very finely ground and moist providing a smooth and pleasant snuffalation. The 'flavouring' isn't too powerful either, like some, but has enough presence to keep you on your toes. The nicotine may not be as strong as some but, again, the effects can certainly be enjoyed.
So in answer to your request for recommendations, I would say McChrystals Original. Plus, I think it is more readily available at some newsagents.

Probably a bit late but I would say definitely pick up a schmelzer type. They are verry different to other snuffs and I love the one I have.

I like a nice menthol snuff too. The more floral perhaps "old English" style snuffs I have tried are okay, I wouldn't rush out to buy them but now I have them they will definitely get used.

This thread however has been more or less a chronicle of my snuff experience thus far, so take from my musings what you will.

J. & H. Wilson Medicated No99, quite excellent.

This is simply a superior product. Beautiful balance of flavours, slight tangy/fruity after taste and extremely smooth.

I can't fault this snuff.

Sam Gawith Kendal Plum, mild and inoffensive. Sweet taste, I could see this one finishing off a heavy meal.

The last tin of McChrystals Original I bought is quite different to the previous few tins. It has an ammonia tinge to it and not so menthol scented.

I've found that a day or two without any nicotine whatsoever sets you up for a damn good WHAM when you snuff first thing in the morning. Great stuff.

Hedges The Snuff, Very nice this one. Somewhat like a mixture of a menthol like J. H Wilson or McChrystals that has been mixed in with a darker unflavoured snuff.

Very smooth, this could easily be an any day any time snuff.

Sam Gawith Firedance, another very good snuff. This one is flavoured with Blackberry, Brandy and Vanilla. This is most certainly an after dinner snuff, not much of a kick but very refreshing and just the slightest bit of pep to keep you going after a heavy meal.

Recently bought some Wilson of Sharrow Vanilla - very dull with no nicotine kick unless really going at it with three large pinches per nostril. Would be better snuffing with custard powder, me thinks.
I doubt I will finish it without mixing it with something more exciting.
Recommended? Not at all!

That Vanilla might go nice in a 50/50 with Viking Dark and a dash of a fruity number.... Perhaps Apricot or Plum?

Haha, I just had an image of The ever cheerful man boy physicist Brian Cox snuffing and marveling at the physics of it.
