I managed to track down 2 tobacconists, well, one tobacconist and one independent wine/alcohol shop that I thought may have had some nice pipe tobacco in (or even cubans for that matter). The wine shop had rolling baccy and hamlet and cafe cremes lol the tobacconist listed on Hunter and Frankau's site had no pipe baccy and a varied selection of guantanamera and 2 x number 3 RyJ and 1x number 2 RyJ. I almost treated myself to a no2 at ?15 when I realised I wouldn't be having a pipe that night, but decided to check the prices online and use the shop for future purchases if well priced (for the RyJ's only). Needless to say I will probably not be buying from there any time soon
Anyway, back to the pipe, I am hoping that the delivery turns up today, it is doing my head in waiting for this baccy, I am almost salivating at the idea of these tobaccos (I ordered some flavoured stuff, but can't remember exactly which ones). I hope I enjoy the experience and tastes as I am well up for pipe smoking.
Excellent info regarding carbonising the bowl, I had only seen a shorter method, but I think it stands to reason the longer process of 1/3 bowls would be a better option, especially for the better briar pipes out there, BUT if you got sick and tired of it and just filled it but smoked gently I think that definitely appeals.
Brilliant stuff about cleaning too, all this is absolutely brand new to me, my first introduction to pipe smoking was when my grandad used to go to the shops on a saturday morning and leave me at his house whereupon I would sneak a quick burn using mashed up cigarette tobacco... not the best experience in the world but helped with a growing nicotine addiction at a young age
I have just had my dreams of snagging an awesome sherlock type pipe for ?30 when I realised it was out of stock... not surprised at that price lol
I will take a look at that rattrays, i am really starting to appreciate the bent style pipes.
