I have thought about buying a pipe for quite a while now but don't want to spend too much in case I don't stick with it.
Any suggestions on a pipe and a good starting bacca?

I'd suggest either a corn cob or a falcon. get a selection of tobacco.

JJ Fox do a load don't they? I've tried a few puffs but the taste doesn't do much for me, I'd be interested in how you get along...

I had the same idea so bought myself a ?20 'Parker of London' (bent bulldog shape) from The Pipe Shop in Edinburgh. They had a box of various styles.
Nothing fancy - It's a cheap and cheerful pipe but it's pretty good.

I also bought some navy flake and another tobacco I can't recall. Since then I've bought some St Bruno and some McBaren Vanilla.

I quite like the navy flake and the st bruno. The McBaren is nice but I get lots of tongue bite.

I'm going to try some Petersen tobaccos next.

I found keeping the thing lit a bit hard until i dried the baccy out a bit. I tried loads of packing techniques but now just lightly fill the bowl and thumb it in gently.

My pipe suggestions have less chance of letting you down as a new smokker who doesn't know how to check over. Cheap briar pipes are a little hit and miss.
