I do not understand why there is such little duty on pipe tobacco compared to cigars? Anyone know why that is?

I hope you enjoy the pipe as much as I am starting to. It won't replace cigars for me but will be a great alternative for winter at least. Oh and sorry for being the reason you bought the pipe in the first place.
That's now two I am responsible for.

Yeah its definitely fun at present! For the price and variety of baccy i am surprised more people don't smoke 'em! I too was struggling with keeping it alight but it seems (according to several reviews) the Sherlock Holmes is quite hard even amongst the most ardent of smokers to keep burning!!

Stop worrying about keeping it lit. Just let it go out when it wants to, tamp and relight. You'll end up smoking cooler and getting more flavour out of it (plus it'll save your tongue).

It seems the more I relax with my pipe the less I care that it goes out, as PD says I just tamp and relight when I'm ready.
I'm finding that it is an alternative to cigars rather than a replacement.

And, I enjoy a pipe when there is another smoker there too - there is something cool about two blokes smoking pipes together, passing the time of day.

I am in the process of trading for a pipe with Paul.

Mine won't be as grand as most in the gallery but I'm intrigued to see if I can tell the difference between an individual handmade pipe and a mass produced one.
