Whilst looking kind of like it, it neither smelled or smoked/tasted like it when I put some to the bowl the other day. It wasn't unpleasant, and certainly something i don't mind keeping. I wondered whether this particular batch was just simply 'out' a bit. For the unfamiliar, there is usually a deep rich aroma, with a heady liquoresque (a new word there, not liquorice[emoji6]) nose to it. These few flakes were more 'malty' reminiscent of a cereal perhaps. Anyhow, cutting to it, this morning I daubed a full flake with some Laphroaig 10[emoji5] and that what's in the Whistle. I don't know whether it has really impacted upon, or changed it's profile, but I certainly enjoyed it[emoji4] Have a good weekend [emoji1417]
Just a thought, having tried "RDF" I have just tried special latakia flake from the same company and have found they both taste very similar. I was also informed by a German pipe smoker on a Facebook group that planta often blend Germains tobaccos. Any thoughts or truth on the matter?

            • Not that I'm jumping on the artsy filter bandwagon or anything :-D

Today, Kendal Bob's Chocolate Flake in the bigger corn cob. I still have no idea if there's any chocolate in the production process, but it's pleasant stuff.

              • A bowl of SG St James Plug in a cob. I bought some falcon 6mm filters to use in it not realising they're cross shaped, I prefer the medico type. Does anyone smoke a falcon & what do you like about them? Considering getting one myself, the metal stem seems like it might affect the flavour?

                • Joe I have 3 falcons myself the ones with the brown metal stem prefer that colour to the silver ones
smoke erinmore flake in one st Bruno flake in the second condor flake in the third.
The Falcon in common with most system pipes directs the smoke around an airway designed to cool the smoke slightly and some smokers, myself included, feel that this knocks the rough edges off a harsh tobacco but also can affect the more subtle nuances of a milder tobacco. I have smoked the same tobacco's in a Falcon,

Paradoxically for a pipe designed to cool and dry tobacco a Falcon will smoke hot and wet for the first few smokes when it is new and until the bowl is conditioned and the moisture driven out of the briar. This passes within a few smokes, but it can be off-putting initially if you are not expecting this. Breaking in a new Falcon with say Condor can render the humidome and the stem unit almost too hot to touch at the beginning.

Once broken in the smoking quality is akin to a good briar and will smoke cool and dispose of goo without difficulty
                  hope this helps.

                  • Thanks mate [emoji106] Think I'll get one for the collection.

Having a bowl of 'Frankenstein' in a cob with a pint of Abbots in the drizzle. Ah this is more like England [emoji38]

                    • Tried some proper tobacco today, finally

And not long ago finished a bowl of loose vanilla from GH. Must say it was very nice change from cherry-vanilla. Smell was not as nice, but flavour was somewhat stronger, burn was not as hot, smoke was nice and cool. Might be a good choice for smoking in public as the room note is pleasant too.

                      • Some aged Fillmore in the Sherlock. It's similar to Haddo's delight but more perique & less added flavouring. Nice pint of Abbot Ale with it.

                          • Enjoying a relaxing Monday morning bowl of Hal o the Wynd in a cob. Broken up a little then dried overnight in a folded up bit of A4 has done the trick.

                            • Having some condor long cut in a cob that I have been smoking ennerdale plug in, a nice mixture of flavours with sweetness of the ennerdale still in the pipe and the floral taste from the condor
