I wondered whether this particular batch was just simply 'out' a bit. For the unfamiliar, there is usually a deep rich aroma, with a heady liquoresque (a new word there, not liquorice[emoji6]) nose to it. These few flakes were more 'malty' reminiscent of a cereal perhaps. Anyhow, cutting to it, this morning I daubed a full flake with some Laphroaig 10[emoji5] and that what's in the Whistle. I don't know whether it has really impacted upon, or changed it's profile, but I certainly enjoyed it[emoji4] Have a good weekend [emoji1417]

Joe I have 3 falcons myself the ones with the brown metal stem prefer that colour to the silver ones
smoke erinmore flake in one st Bruno flake in the second condor flake in the third.
The Falcon in common with most system pipes directs the smoke around an airway designed to cool the smoke slightly and some smokers, myself included, feel that this knocks the rough edges off a harsh tobacco but also can affect the more subtle nuances of a milder tobacco. I have smoked the same tobacco's in a Falcon,
Paradoxically for a pipe designed to cool and dry tobacco a Falcon will smoke hot and wet for the first few smokes when it is new and until the bowl is conditioned and the moisture driven out of the briar. This passes within a few smokes, but it can be off-putting initially if you are not expecting this. Breaking in a new Falcon with say Condor can render the humidome and the stem unit almost too hot to touch at the beginning.
Once broken in the smoking quality is akin to a good briar and will smoke cool and dispose of goo without difficulty
hope this helps.

Tried some proper tobacco today, finally
And not long ago finished a bowl of loose vanilla from GH. Must say it was very nice change from cherry-vanilla. Smell was not as nice, but flavour was somewhat stronger, burn was not as hot, smoke was nice and cool. Might be a good choice for smoking in public as the room note is pleasant too.

Having some condor long cut in a cob that I have been smoking ennerdale plug in, a nice mixture of flavours with sweetness of the ennerdale still in the pipe and the floral taste from the condor
