      • My first 'proper' pipe has just arrived. Got a bit of a sore throat, so shouldn't really be taking it out on a test run, but can't resist.
It's a Peterson Dublin 69. I don't have much experience in choosing a pipe, but took Oskihen's advice on a Peterson and had a look through the range. I chose on aesthetics, just due to the sheer choice from this one brand! Trying it out with a sample of Dunhill london mixture. Smoking nicely so far!

        • That's a fine looking pipe. It looks has a large capacity. Are you using filters and a screen?

Just a filter (although I didn't realise it when I bought it). Need to read up on filters and screens! [emoji15]

nice pipe just be carefull when lighting the tobacco wether using matches or a lighter that you don't burn the rim of the pipe.
Never pack a pipe flush with the rim I always pack it quarter inch bellow.

Thanks for the advice. I had a couple of disposable pipe lighters come with it, and proper refillable lighter on its way from eBay. That should help to keep lighting under control.

Really good Tony , they direct smoke to the roof of the mouth which can help with the dreaded tongue bite . Although touch wood been smoking pipes so long and know the pitfalls to avoid the afore mentioned

                      • Read on some forum they are a bit awkward to grip suppose it's a matter of getting used to p lips when used to fish tail stems.

                        • Breaking in the new pipe with a half a bowl of Dunhill nightcap. First time I've had it and not enjoying it as others. Finding it quite bitter. Maybe the new pipe. Will have to see what's in it so I can decide whether to avoid it on the future.

I find nightcap benefits from a bit of ageing in a jar for a while a good month or so at least shake it about a bit every now and then , and smoke it after a good meal Simon

                              • Just had some Navy Rolls, dried it out for 12 hours beforehand which helped.
