A pipe is certainly not to be rushed and don't be put off by relights , the tobaccos all behave differently but the secret is in the preparation which is all part of the ritual and enjoyment of a good pipe , used to take mine fishing sitting in my bivvy.
When to tamp and how much to before and during smoking is all down to experience , also a soft draw is certainly the way to go , bit like a cigar you don't want to over cook it

Yeah, as in group buys with a negotiated discount if we spend over a certain amount. I'm not sure if he would go for that, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I also thought about the possibility of perhaps seasonal forum blends. I.E 4 blends a year that we could come up with and get them to knock up for us in batches.

How long does it generally take to smoke a pipe?

I'm considering saving cigars for the warmer months, I'm finding that an hour plus in the cold rather detracts from the enjoyment.

Depends if your in good company chatting away and relighting ages, if contemplating your navel quietly on your own or twenty minutes half hour tops Depends on the size of the bowl but that's pretty average . It a a great smoke different to cigars cheaper and I like switching between the two.
I've got a church warden longer stems slightly cooler smoke and great for reading with
