Having another go at English Classic. Getting bit of pleasant flavours thru. Need more practice

Right guys after reading up and finding out you need to tramp down occasionally once lit I had myself a rather pleasant time there. Smoking my pipe watching a video on you tube about how to make a bush craft pipe. Some lovely flavours once I got it going and I think watching a video and not concentrating too hard on what I was doing helped. Whole new world of fairly different flavours to cigars. Still only managed about 6 draws in a row without relight but I remember the struggle when I first started on cigars so not going to stress about it. I know it will come with practice

I find that tamping every 3 to 4 draws keeps the tobacco alight to the bottom. Tamp only to the point of removing the air pockets, not to compress the tobacco. The weight of the tamper should be enough.

Sure will bud! One little trick I like is when it's clearly about to go out, give it a tamp cover the bowl with your thumb and give it a good draw, half cover it with your thumb for the next couple. It can often resurrect a dead burner!

Spent half the time cringing at how close he has his hands to power tools!

Let the pipe cool slightly and some baccy spread out to dry slightly and gone in for another go.

Its a much lighter pull you are taking on the draw compared to a cigar, right?

I also must have missed what wood he was using, but I'd also be worried about breatig in the dust from his stem. Other than than good to see a young lad having a go at DIY.

I might have a crack at a fruitwood pipe myself.

Nice one Wigan , excellent btw are you tamping your tobacco down as you fill it in stages , fill the pipe, tamp it down fill again tamp etc,, so you get a layered tamped pipe check after its full that the draw seems ok , a little bit of practice makes perfect . [emoji3]

Took the stem off to remove paper packing. Thought shit I don't know which round this went. Smoke rises so must point up. Should I ask on the forum. Nah I will end up looking a complete plonker..........

Pretty sure he said Maple for the stem. Looks a fairly simple starter project that produces result quickly and something useful. Certainly the sort of thing to get you into the craft

Sticking with this English Classic till I get the knack as its the biggest bag I have. The rest are all samplers. Really looking forward to flavoured ones as I read on here they are good where flavoured cigars are shite. Also read they are not for begniners so a bit of wait there

And I am doing it with the stem the other way round this time.......
