I smoke more pipes than cigars (Mainly because of the cost)
The range of tobacco's is vast. Dunhill 965 and Petersons Old Dublin are two of my favourites. Don't like Aromatic's at all.
It would be a good idea to have a Pipe section on here.

I'm with you on the aromatics... I've just started a bowl of Condor Long Flake that I bought this afternoon; dear God, this stuff is horrible! like drinking cheap aftershave or something....
I'll keep going though, see if my opinion changes (can't see that happening!)

Some of the lakeland blends taste like soap... that takes the biscuit.

I don't think that they are aromatics, just horrible. Anyone who dislikes aro's should try some connoisseurs choice.

I'm sure there are lots of good aromatics, it's just that personally I prefer the english/balkan blends as well as VA's and VaPers

The first Aromatic I tried many years ago was Mac Baren Vanilla Cream.
Smelt great, tasted of nothing, and gave me tongue bite. Yuk...
Tried some straight Latakia a few months ago, nice, but a bit overpowering on it's own.

                  MacBaren's are notorious for that!

I don't smoke aromatics but I sometimes buy a pouch when I go to be with people who will accept a smoke that "smells good" but will not allow the heavy smoke of a cigar.
The best I have tried are products from american blender Russ Ouellette.

Yeah that was the first I tried a few weeks ago too, it came recommended very highly so for my first ever pipe experience I got some of that and some Dunhill flake. Both tasted the same as far as I could tell lol, I'm assuming that your pipe pallet is not connected to your cigar pallet

it took me months to be able to appreciate the tastes. If you smoke an aro too hot hit will burn off the flavour without you "getting" it.

enjoying pipe tobacco requires a completely different approach; I do both (much, much more familiar with cigars though). See the post at the top I made about this. Pipe smoking is just as rewarding as cigar smoking as long as you treat it as the gentle soul that it is (my cubans tend to be a little more arrogant!)
