So, finally it happened, I lost my 'Nub' cherry today! (Cameroon)
I guess I didn't know what to expect.
Having read so many reports on how wonderful an experience it can be, I confess I found it something of a . . . (dare I say it?) . . . let down.
After opening up the 'box' and slipping off the protection, I inhaled its fragrant aroma, enjoying the promise of things to come, before 'punching' a hole in it and firing it up.
It's true that these babies are beautifully put together and burn like a dream, but. . . I just couldn't love it.
I think I should make it clear from the outset (in order not to offend any 'Nub lovers' out there), it's not you (the Nub), it's me.
I'm a Cuban boy through and through. They're what I started out on, my first love if you like.
It's difficult to put my finger on the problem, other than to say it's the 'after-taste' I found strange. Like someone had added a couple of Darjeeling tea leaves to the blend for a bit of fun.
This odd 'after-taste' persisted right through to the final third, I kinda got used to it, but just couldn't enjoy it.
Though I will say, in the interests of balance, I can totally understand why others love these - precisely because of their very distinctive taste.
Anyhow, to cut a sad story short - I remain unconverted.
I'm sorry, truly sorry!
The (I fear hopeless) search for an NC that can compete with a Cuban for my affections continues.
