Before I realised Cuban's were the finest cigar's I could smoke and nowhere else could touch them.
I used to like the tin's of Davidoff Winston Churchill Lancaster

I was only throwing some bait out their tbh Niela, I haven't smoked anything New World in probably over 5 years, I mainly didn't appreciate the dry mouth feel I associate with 90% of NC's.
I like the strength and flavours / balance of Cuban's. Probably available to an extent in the New World now. I couldn't face trying to get my head around that scene these day's though, it's daunting.

I've never tried a Davidoff. And very very few new world cigars for sure. None of those ive tried were stellar, obviously ive just not hit on any yet! And most of the NC i've tried have been just OK. I take notes from the comments from on here now and again so will get some over time.
I would like to hit on some stellar new world cigars! Would be great. Most of the great CC I've hit on are just plain out of reach or out of production and HTF which is greatly annoying.
I've been making my way through singles for years while collecting some boxes. Still got loads of singles to go! So this is part of why its annoying for sure. I'm Almost down to the couple hundred singles now then I can start on boxes!
note to self. stop buying fivers.....

The same with cigars. I love the much wider palette of flavours that's on offer to me by adding NCs to the choice of CCs. I don't reject CCs at all, but I would miss the much larger world of many more flavours I could never get from Cuba.
What's strange to me is, that I too thought of Cuba as the premium and the rest as a compromise. But now that I know more about NCs, I find cigars that are just wonderful (though they are not necessarily the big brands of NCs) and I rarely get a pepper bomb or bland one anymore.

With NCs it's all a bit more predictable and thus more boring. What I find equally exciting though are smaller runs. Limitadas or small batch production from boutique tabacaleras. These have the advantage of being able to use small batches of tobacco (due to the small production run) that you couldn't use in any regular production because they're not available in large enough quantities. These often create unique blends with wonderful flavours in ranges no Cuban cigar can ever get. And to the price of a regular production CC with the quality of a EL CC.

I used to smoke 50:50 Cuban : Non Cuban and last couple of years I've primarily been smoking Cubans, mainly because I've bought so many as I was holidaying in europe a lot, but I have missed the Non Cubans.
The NC's have definitely stepped up their game over the last few years, even the smell of each cigar in the sampler I have just got varies so much between them.
When Cubans are "on" they are phenomenal but I've quite a few average ones lately. I love the variety of NC's and the fact I can buy 25 in lanceros and skinnies is a big plus. I like to sample different flavours and some new stuff.
Definitely planning on getting back to a 50:50 split. Had a few Davidoffs this year and they've been very good, they are expensive but not been let down by any of them.
