Guys, I am really sorry to be a kill joy but I have had to moderate this thread and Sam's latest comments due to UK Law.
I have been advised and have told Deano and the other moderators that UK law does not allow a company to offer free cigars as part of a competition as it can be seen to be promoting smoking which is against the law.
This also extends to branded gear.
So this competition is now for the Forums 'Top Nub Picture' Medal which Sam will judge.
I had asked Sam to put a close date on the competition but as he hasn't done this in his last post I propose we run until the 14th April and then call on Sam to judge all the pictures posted.
As I do not believe it is not illegal for individuals to gift cigars I will also donate an unbranded cigar which Sam just happened to roll for me at JJ Fox last summer when he was in town to the winner It has been nesling in my Humidor ever since.
I am really sorry about this but you guys need to understand that as moderators we are still learning the law here and we need to keep the right side of the line as I don't wan't to get thrown in chokey!
I'm so confussed..................This is becoming a nightmare and I am sure glad I live in the good Ole USA. Seems like the brother dictates all the fun right out of anything
Seem like a good time for another American Tea Party . Long live the Queens.
If Sam sent it personally as a gift i do believe that customs are lenient where this is concerned , i've read on the official customs pages that if it is deemed a personal gift under a certain value then it is up to customs official whether to allow it. As Sam is not selling anything and has offered us the items for free personally would this not count.
Ha'way i stood with a nub beside a castle, Americans don't have castles, they're too young.
I started out with nothing and i've still got most of it left - Seasick Steve
I think its more to do with it being illegal to offer cigars and cigar merchandise as a prize in the Uk. As I stated earlier, I'm more than happy to work something out with him if he wants to contact me via pm, I'm used to sending out packages lol

If that was the case there wouldnt be any comps allowed on here,
I thought it was more about certain licensing or ownership rights plus whoever it was getting the arse once they heard about it.
If you ask me they shot themselves in the foot there as they could have been selling more of them afterwards. Now they wont be!
Lee, your friends with Sam on FB arent you. Contact him via that and arrange something there that way it's not going to cause any grief for deano etc.
Nic you can do what you wish with this thread . As farse as I'm concerned your going to do it anyway. All the shit about we can't do this and we can't do that but others are allowed to do what the shit they feel like. No disrespect intended Nic but this is how I see it !

How your post could possibly not intend disrespect I have no idea?
I feel like this has been said many times before but the mods have a legal responsibility in the UK and have to traverse the many, complex and not always clear rules and try to make the best decisions.
If you were a mod on this forum what would you do to keep yourself out of court?
To blame the mods for the laws in the UK IMHO is ignorant and disrespectful.
Personally I also find it disingenuous that someone who's primary input to the forum had been selling NC's now campaigns so vehemently in the name of 'free speech'. I appreciate that the (absolutely correct) change in the forum rules probably had a significant impact on you but this does not change the reality of the situation.
Come on G-Man, give up this crusade (because non of us can change the laws) and get back in the groove
Sam - sorry for this nonsense, not our usual vibe at all. Not your fault, please keep contributing.

Little medical correction there Steve, you will surely die...but not from smoking these
Thanks monkey66. That sums it up, but alas, you and I have said it all before and it still hasn't sank in.
I still don't quite understand what you don't get Gman. This is about us staying out of trouble with the law, not about your 'free speech'. This [tobacco competition/merchandise] is the law in the UK and we have to abide by it. If you don't wish to abide by our laws, and thus our rules, you may go elsewhere.
I really can't quite get my head around what you don't understand. You seem to take it as some personal vendetta!
Cheers for posting Sam, it's a shame it's not possible in the UK but we appreciate your time and thought.
