    To our USAsian cousins.....

I just got a couple of tubed Robert Burns cigars given to me by a woman at work. They're called Black Watch and are roughly corona size.

    Any comments?

I had never heard of them and had to look them up.

They are low-cost machine made cigars that were apparently popular in the 1950's.

This was found on a site selling them:
"Constructed with a homogonized sheet wrapper and binder, the filler blend is made from Dominican and Honduran tobaccos to provide its exceptionally mild-bodied taste."

Not much info to go on...

Have you sparked one up yet?

Wonder if they were originally made for the Black watch in the days when the Brits had an Empire nd the Black Watch were stationed in the region. Seems an unusual name for them. Must be a history lesson in there somewhere.

I was given a tubed one some time ago, saving it for when someone who doesn't smoke asks for a cigar

I always think that's a bit of a flse move. I would like to introduce people to the world of good cigars, not chase them away!

Black Watch were the first cigars I nicked and smoked from my Dad's stash when I was about 14. I'm sure I'd mucked about with (British) Castellas before then. They were tubed and my Dad was given them by mates at the local USAF (US Air Force) base in Suffolk where we lived. I can't remember what they tasted like - a bit artificial, additives-y, I think - but they were my first entry into Cigar Manhood in the bog upstairs at home. My parents were both cigarette hoovers and they didn't detect the cigar smell so I got away with it really easily.

I'd be very interested in any verdicts all these years down the line.

Well, I got round to sparking up one these puppies last night. cigar looked ok, obviously machine made with a hole in the cap a la King Eddie, but with a nice Connecticut-like wrapper. No discernible smell, but it looked ok.

First draw was disgusting! I don't know what it tasted like, but it wasn't good! Second draw was even worse. It tasted like I was smoking fungus and pretty awful fungus at that! I had a third draw and then put it out!

Like everybody here, I've had cigars I didn't like, but I've never tasted anything like that! I'd even have a Guantanamera before that!

I didn't think they would be worth a damn!
