  • Helix

I had a "supermarket" night last night.

Tesco own brand HIghland Malt and a Helix cigar from the same shop.

The Helix was actually better than I thought it was going to be (I had stored it for about 8 weeks prior to smoking it) but the wrapper at the head/cap was in really bad nick. And only got worse when I cut it.

Is this purely down to being stored on a supermarket shelf or this a common problem with this brand ??

    Ah NO ! !
Must have been in someones pocket during a
    Rugby game !
This is usually a finely put together cigar.
The appearance is no different then any other
    finely crafted NC cigar !

I've not heard of these before-are they worth a go then?

[EDIT] I hear the Tesco malts are pretty good, but not got round to trying them myself yet.

I agree with the G-Man on this one. Not a lot going on with the Helix for me either. I may have smoked a total of 3 of these and the one I recall smoking (maduro) was not very nice and imparted a bitterness that did not agree with me. The other two (possibly shade wrappers?) made no unpleasant impressions but didn't really leave me with good impressions either. If I recall correctly they are quite mild and the flavor is elusive to say the least. Have not revisited since.
Trying is the first step toward failure.

            Me too

I agree with the G-man and the SeanP-man on this one also.

My Helix was a Cylinder Tubo. Only cost me two bucks (bit over ?1 lb. stirling moss). Should have smoked the tube.

Don't get me wrong guys, I wasn't expecting a top end cigar but I did expect the thing to stay in one piece.

Ive tried the Helix on several ocassions, when ive run out of anything decent its handy to nip to Tesco (nearest ones 14 miles away) to grap a Helix until re supplied. Very mild, you need to smoke it with a nice strong cognac to give your palette some additional flavour.
