Any really good, underrated non-cubans from lesser known brands I should be aware of?

Cigarssogood.. The Cao Riollo range are very nice especially the little pampas, i just bought myself a box of 20 CAO box pressed Cameroons, not expensive but very smooth and enjoyable.. Also i recommend the La Invicta range quite cheap and quite nice when you start but a little bitter towards the end. Both have an even burn but a little smokey, within minutes both fill my rather small living room with dense fog!!

For a stronger, quite chocolatey and earthy budget(y!) cigar, try Jose L Piedra Cazadores or mini Cazadores... They are lovely in my opinion.
Much cheaper and pukka Cuban as well!

I would give the Viaje line a try. They made one for the holiday time and it was excellent. I also highly recomend the Padron line not that they are underrated
