I am really quite keen to smoke some non Cubans and get out of my comfort zone, I have had a few non cubans in the past and although the construction etc was great some of the flavour profiles wasn't for me, more recently I have been looking at the drew estate liga privada as a possible starting point if these are know to anyone here?

I'm not a fan to be honest, I don't mind the undercrown shade but I find the rest of them to be severely overrated. Especially the Liga Privadas.
I would recommend Warped, Headley Grange, Illusione and Fuente for my palate but then lots of people love the drew estate stuff.
Maybe try the standard undercrown before shelling out on the Liga stuff, will give you a good idea of what Drew Estate is about at a more reasonable price.

Tabac Especial is also a great smoke.
I like the Acid Atom too once you get past the sweet tip.
Undercrown are good but expensive particularly the flying pig.
The fire cured was an interesting thing but I don't think Is go out my way to get another.

Wasn't as keen on the blondie I have to say. Of all the perfumed sticks the Acid Atom is my favourite.
Not tried the t52 or the Liga privada yet but maybe one day when funds allow. Herera esteli was quite disappointing.
On another tack you have to try Padron. Expensive but very good.

I have so far smoke the following drew estates: Dirty Rat & Unico L40, they were both exceptional sticks. Flawless construction nice earthy slightly spicy flavour with a hint of coffee, thick oily smoke and cool smoking until the very end. Not as complex as a good cuban can be and without huge flavour evolution - they tend to be very consistent from beginning to end. To me they tick all the boxes for a cuban alternative but I have to admit the price point at least in the UK is a bit high. I have a box of the T52 robustos, I will smoke one soon and write down my thoughts.

So, today I smoked the Drew Estate Undercrown Robusto. The undercrown being the lesser brother of the Liga Privada with the story behind the brand being that the rollers in the factory were smoking too many of the Ligas to the point of making them extinct () so the Boss had to tell them to back off and find a replacement with something similar but made with more available tobaccos...as such the Undercrown was born. The cigar was of flawless construction similar to the Drew Estate quality standards.
Pre light draw was of musty earth and hints of spice, easy draw. Fired up the cigar has an earthy base with light spice and coffee with the spice increasing on intensity up to the mid of the cigar. Thinner in mouthfeel and intensity of flavour to the Unico L40 and the Dirty Rat I had before this. The cigar finishes with the earth taking a step back and the spices increasing.
I was not blown away, I cannot fault in the way it smokes or the taste but I found it less interesting than the ligas and the price (not the size) are not that different. Would I buy another single...yes, would I buy a box, no.
Next one will be one of my T52s when I am back in Aberdeen and of course weather permitting. I also have my eye on the Liga 9 and the Norte?o.
I hope the above helps....I was very lucky to enjoy the stick in beautiful Greek autumn weather (26C) and with a superbly made cappuccino (Guatemalan bean).
