  • New world in comparison to cuban??

    Hey guys

i am relatively new to cigars and not had much joy with the new world cigars i have sampled, they dont seem to come close to the cuban flavour i enjoy so much. Anyone got any recomendations for me? Also wondering how the dominican Cohiba and RYJ fare in comparison

Unless you can find a Puro Dominicana then stay away from the Dominican Cohibas but the Dominican Romeos are good and I smoke them regularly. You won't be able to buy any in this country's shops because of the copyright issue. When you achieve PM status I'll send you one to try

Romeo y Julieta fled to the DR after the revolution and set up shop in Romana, they have now been swallowed up by one of the American companies. Cohiba didn't exist then I think so use of the name is more contraversial.

VegaFina Tubos. Had a few of these now and I can find no fault with them.

IMO don't look for a Cuban comparison in non Cuban cigars. Find something good about them on their own merits. Expect a bumpy ride though, there's lots of chaff around the wheat.

Have a look in the reviews section, there are plenty of recommendations for NCs.

Being a newbie my self I have to agree with vtg on this, I am at a stage where I am trying cc's as well as nc's, I have found a lot of varying taste to nc's that is the part I enjoy and the great thing about cigars.

Generally I would say that Cubans are unique and I have not had a NC that could deliver a CC flavour profile yet.

However, I also haven't had a CC that could give me a NC profile either... I wouldn't want to miss either of them... 😊

I totally agree with VTG - they're like anything when it comes to taste - Sometimes you might fancy a glass of red wine, sometimes you may fancy white. Although they're both wine, they're totally different and you like them for different reasons.
It's the same with CCs and NCs - And it's so much fun exploring the world of NCs! There are so many different sticks to go at and every single one seems to bring something different to the table.
Some are total shite and some are practically orgasmic - and bizarrely, their price isn't always an indication of which is which.
                    Enjoy the journey

And they aren't all confined to the Caribbean. Italy makes good cigars too.
If you want to, you can.

I would like to join the discussion and add a little bit of my own experience smoking non Cuban cigars. Cubans are good but not consistent with quality a probably any hand rolled cigars. They nice, unique and very enjoyable cigars, but in my opinion did not evolve in cigar evolution since embargo been erected. Where is American cigars (not US cigars but including all South American countries and Caribbean Islands) has evolved and achieved enormous progress. They experiment and try new combinations with flavours a lot. For example Arturo Fuente - great cigars, I would put him ahead of some Cubans, Carlos Torano - very good blends, Crown Diamond - superb quality, better then some Cohibas, La Aurora - great smoke, Alec Bradley - Tempus natural - simply wow cigar... I can continue on and on. Nothing pretentious just own experience

I see your point.... But i think some things should be left alone, as heratage products that dont need to evolve.

English Beer, Belgian Beer, Scottish Whisky, Vinyl Records and Cuban Cigars are at the top of that list.

+1 on the Diamond Crown Mr Golden Hands, I discovered them on holiday in September and had to get a box.
