  • Ageing Opus X

I've read and heard that it's essential to age Opus. Having recently bought 3 sticks I'd like to try one and put the others away for a bit or try to.
What are people's opinions on ageing / minimum ageing for an Opus?
    Thanks
    Rob

They are supposed to age well but I can't vouch for that. I bought MarkLondon a 17yr old Opus X for his birthday last year and he said it was okay. Watch out for the nic hit though, how's your tolerance?

As that was the only one I've had I can't tell if the age benefited it, but I did enjoy it. Quite a different flavour to anything else I've smoked.

17 year old? Wow, that was a good gift for a birthday!
I like a cigar with strength but these will probably be the strongest I will have had.

Personal opinion but think they need a years rest at least, as to long term aging I've tried a ten year old that was great but I haven't tried enough to judge.

I've had some stellar OpusX gifted to me with 7-10 years of age on them.....imo, they need a LOT of rest. I don't like younger OpusX, but when they have a bit of age on them, can be outstanding smokes. One of the few NC that age well.

I had a handful of the number 4s (can't remember the exact name) with about six years on them. They smoked fine and probably benefitted from the rest tbh. Peppery as a peppery thing when young, which dominated the experience. I sold the remainder on here when I needed ?s a year or two ago. Perhaps someone will spot the thread and chip in with a view.

                  I got one Opus X from 2010..

Really want to smoke it but trying hard to age some of my collection.

I like them but dont quite have the tang of cuban cigars..

Still, Opus and Padrons are damn fine non-cubans!

I've got 3 that don't have any age on them and am going to try them at different intervals. I bought a box of with a minimum of 5 years on them, just haven't had the chance to try one yet, waiting for an afternoon when I've got nothing to do.

I got a tin of 3 from 2010 and smoked one a couple of month ago. Sublime smoke, but The Nic hit nearly made me sick and I'm an ex smoker.

I won't be touching the other 2 for a while.

That's the only one I've had though so can't compare to a fresh one.

Yeah, its the potential nicotine hit that has me waiting for a clear afternoon.

That's why Iv'e never bought one despite their good rep flavour wise

Getting there too will try one very soon
Apparently Opus does not have wow reviews, at least I did not see one, most of the people say - good smoke and nothing more.
I will tell you what I think in while.

I got an Opus X for the first time recently (a shark 77 2015 edition). It smells amazing and I'd love to fire it up over the Christmas holidays but I'm going to try and leave it for a year or two.
