woah woah! we weren't bashing NCs! Just the.... *ahm* BUTTERY ones.

Had a few 25 YO Non-Cubans over the weekend and they've convinced me to age some good ones for at least 10 years before smoking. flavours you'd never get in a regular cuban or aged cuban...

              Good bye, bb.... Nighty night.

Anyway... Really? Few NCs that benefit from age? Is that just because of of the new revelations post- cigar boom? Opus Xs apparently need more than a decade of age before you can light them up. Otherwise, they're just harsh and blistering.
The 25YO smoke a while back was an Avo Churchill and I could easily say it was one of the best Non-Cubans and most complex smokes I've ever had. I was also given some 20+ YO Oliva V Maduro Double Coronas that I am very, VERY interested in. If they turn out to be even half of what the AVOs are, I wouldn't hestitate in stocking up two boxes every year of Oliva Maduros and paying it forward to myself 20 years later.

Aside from the aneuryms these posts are giving me, there seems to be actual good information here.

                  Indian tobacco.... eh?

I am so glad that NCs exist - good NC manufacturers are a lot less lazy than their Cuban counterparts -
imho a lot of the time, the Cuban approach is - fuck it, we're Cuba! If we make them, they will sell.... Because, well, because Cuba.
NCs don't have that cachet. So they have to work on things like blend, quality control (something Cuba has absolutely no fricking clue about AT ALL) and presentation.
Yes, some of the sticks produced are gimmicky - so ignore them - and move on to the meat of the NC market - some of the sticks they have are beyond amazing.
My humis are about 76/24 NC/CC
I have lost count of the number of ccs I've had with poor construction, plugged, etc. I know exactly how many NCs that has happened with. One.
And If I'm going to sit down for a nice relaxing smoke, I like those odds very much with an NC. With a CC it's a frigging lottery.

I sometimes wonder if I've been astonishingly lucky with CCs, excluding a couple of cigars from the infamous 'bad years' I don't have particularly big problems, the burn is slightly uneven occasionally or the draw might be a bit tight, but I very rarely have any that are full on plugged (as I said, apart from some from around about 2000)

I certainly don't consider it a lottery with CCs, and I think that if there is a risk its certainly worth taking - in my experience the best CCs completely outshine any NCs I have tried

I'm by no means an NC basher but when I look at the best cigars I have smokes NCs never feature very highly (even when I smoked more of them)

I smoke the occasional NC, most I find to be overpowered and not overly interesting. But every now and again there has been a gem that defies expectation. I've not smoked an NC with 20 years on it, but in the humi I have a few Padron that must be running up to nearly 10.

Groundhog's point about construction has been accepted by cigar smokers for a long while. But that might be changing, Cuban construction I think, has improved over the last few years. NC may be in danger of going backwards.

                        This .... http://cigarobsession.com/2015/03/18...igar-industry/ .... is a worry.
