The only info I can find is that they appear to have been available during the 1950's in the UK. They look to be a low cost cigar.Licky Licky before Sticky Sticky. - Puff Scotty 22/03/14

Here is the culmination of the research I have managed to do into this brand:
The company that made these was built and owned by Benito and Juan Machado who were two Cuban tobacco planter cousins fleeing Cuba.
They ended up in Jamaica with access to tobacco seed from the Vuelta Abajo area of Cuba and the expertise to understand what was the best land to plant it. They chose Temple Hall and Colbeck as being similar to the best tobacco land in Cuba.
In 1875, they established B. and J.B. Machado and started a cigar factory on Harbour Street in Kingston. It was small and employed about twenty-five workers, who were all experienced Cuban cigar rollers.
The La Tropical brand was the joint first ever trade mark in Jamaica, being registered on June 21st 1889.
Before the re-entry of Cuban cigars to the British market B. and J.B. Machado were one of the bigger a cigar suppliers to Britain and now had a staff of over 300.
Upon the death of the founders, the company floundered in family ownership for a while before Temple Hall Ltd. purchased them and managed to grow them to a point that they were exporting cigars to 40 countries.Licky Licky before Sticky Sticky. - Puff Scotty 22/03/14

Obviously a gamble, they could be awful husks of flavourless dust..... But they could be real gems too.Licky Licky before Sticky Sticky. - Puff Scotty 22/03/14
