  • Say hello to my little NUB!

I recently began looking for a few NCs that I could smoke in order to spare my dwindling inventory of fine puros. (Back story: when I recently returned to SOM, MX., I noticed that el Perro and the rest of the Coro Clan had liberated many of the finest puros from my massive unit without replacement.)

So I decided to give the popular NUB/Cain line of sticks another go after my first attempt when they arrived on the scene a few years ago. From past experience, I remember the Cain-NUB Habano being quite exceptional. So I picked up a few 460 NUBs (4" X 60) with the Habano and Connecticut wrappers and a few Cain Robustos (5.7" X 50) with the Habano wrapper. On the first go around, the Habano wrapper NUB and Cain were not as good as I remembered, but the NUB with the Connecticut wrapper (which is a milder and smoother) was a decent stick - box-worthy, you might say.

Today I picked up another Cain Habano Robusto and the experience was quite different from the night before. Apparently, a cigar of this strength needs to be enjoyed slowly (mine took 1 hour and 45 minutes) with a fine compliment, such as a Captain Morgan Rum and Coke. Both the Cain and the Cain F are 100% triple-fermented ligero and consider to be full-bodied. I guess it's like they say....you can't judge a book by it's cover, nor a cigar by a single stick.

Now I'm thinking about picking up a box of the 460 NUB Connecticut wrapper and the Cain Robusto Habano. I have not tired the Cain F Robusto yet, but will likely take care of that later tonight. Supposedly, the Cain F "has a bit more power" than the other Cain sticks.

Anyone else have experience with the NUB and/or Cain sticks.

Names Coro, TJ Coro, and I'll be doing the posting for the time being while the rest of the Coros continue stumbling about on their definitive journey through the dark sea of awareness as they attempt to navigate their way back home.

Finally. Oi TJ, where've you been For the past few months??

Anyways, the nubs. I've always wondered if they would live up to their names. Been afraid to traverse be territory for a while, but my next haul of NCs will definitely have that Nub you mentioned
Also because I'm quite partial to the ligero blends.

Thanks for noticing, muchacho. I just needed to step back for a bit or "unplug" as the ninos say, and replenish my spirit on the "other side of midnight," which is where the rest of the Coros are presently stumbling about. So I'll be doing the posting until they find their way back to the forum.

Regarding the NUBS, like you and senor G, I find some of the NUBS (and Cains, I suppose) to be a excellent alternative to a fine puro. As me pappy, Pappy Coro used to say "Smoke an NC, preserve a puro." I sure do miss the ol' wise one.

Anyway, the other day I pulled the trigger on a box of the 460 Connecticut wrapper which I think would be a wonderful stick anytime of the day.

Tomorrow, I plan to sample the limited NUB Habano Sun Grown double perfecto! Will post findings soon after.

          Regards,

You apparently prefer a full-bodied, full strength stogie, chico. When the NUB/Cain was first introduced, the Habano Wrapper was my "go to" in the NUB/Cain line. But having had another go at them recently, my taste tends to lean more towards the Connecticut wrapper at the moment. I've yet to experience the Cameroon NUB, which is now going to the top of my "must try" list.

Regarding the Cain F, which is a full-bodied stick, I currently have one resting in a "dry box" due to a plug towards the head of the stick - first NC I've had with a plug or tight draw.

Sounds lovely, senor Pandy. I think I'll visit the local B&M today to pick one up. And while I'm there, perhaps they will let me exchange my plugged Cain F for another. You never know.

                              The Cameroon Wrapper!

I picked up a 460 NUB Cameroon wrapper to give it a go based on your comment, senor boy.

I was once a big fan of the Cameroon wrapper during the cigar boom in the 90"s, especially those produced by Indian Tabac (aka, Rocky Patel). But as more and more manufacturers came on line with a Cameroon wrapper stick (or so it seemed), I began to loose interest

But the 460 NUB Cameroon I tried was quite decent...quite decent indeed. But my preference at this time still leans towards the Connecticut wrapper, with the Cameroon a close second.

Oh, I also got my hands on a limited production 466 HUB Habano Sun Grown and found it to be rather enjoyable. I think fans of full-body, full-flavor sticks will enjoy this one. From the looks of it, however, it could have easily been called "The Bulge."

                              IMG_1663.jpg

The first part of the stick was filled with spice and a ton of pepper to the nose, but it settled down a bit once the burn got past the bulge and continued to tapper off as the stick wore on.

Although I wouldn't necessarily buy a box at the price ($74US/10), I certainly would not hesitate to pick up a stick or two at the local B&M.

                              Regards,
