  • Nicuragua - where should I start?

    Hi everyone,

I am a cigar newbie - I have been smoking them for a while, but have mostly stuck to cubans of various stripes. I would like to order 10-15 cigars to give myself a taste of the new world, and thought I would start with Nicuragua. I have tried a few: Nub, Ashton VSG, Rocky Patel and Oliva, mostly robusto sized. All of these made me curious for more.

Do you have some tips for me?

IMHO, go with what you fancy, in small quantities Cigars mean all things to all men

          A Fine Start

One way to sample NCs is to buy the "samplers" offered by many vendors. The usually sell at a reduced price and are a good way to find out what you like and what you don't. It helps to keep a log.

That's what I did anyway when I started enjoying NCs. Based on your first post, it looks like you're on the right road!

Names Boy, Bag Boy, and I'm at your service, chico!

Haha! I never thought I'd say this.....but, bring back the stupid looking dawg smiley. You're a wee bit too serious for my taste, Bag Boy!

I am taking note of all these, gents... Thanks! I can feel an NC order coming up. By the way, how do people like the Cgars private selection NC robusto?

Not necessarily all Nicaraguan, but all non-cuban.

Nicarao, Fuente, Don Duarte, Liga Privada, Padron, Pinar Del Rio, Illusione, Tatuaje, Aging Room, Perdomo, My Father. All have some pretty good blends.

A few I would recommend, but they are all pretty strong would be:
Nicarao Exclusivo, Villiger 1888 Fuerte, La Aroma de Cuba/Caribe Mi Amor, Illusione 88, Tatuaje Brown Label Reserva, Aging Room M356, Perdomo 2006 Grand Cru Double Maduro.

                      I second that.

Also I have always found Charatan to be decent smokes, particularly the Robusto.

I went mad on Alec Bradley a couple of months back and got some Prensado, Maxx, American Classic and Nica Puro's. I had some burn issues last night and had to relight a Nica Puro 3 times so I decided to set my humidifier to 65% from 70% and will leave them a month to adjust. That should sort them out!!

That should do the trick That said, IMHO, rotating the offending sticks a quarter of a turn every couple of week just helps to quicken / balance things out
