Right, I'll start off by saying I've nearly always smoked Cuban Cigars so yesterday was a funny old day for me.
My experience of NC's is limited so by all means shoot me down if you want!
The 3 Cigars, (forgive me if I get these wrong)
1 Illusione MK 124 X 42
2 Nub Sungrown 464 100 X 64
3 A. Fuente Gran Reserva 170 X 52ish
As you guys know I don't do reviews but only offer my opinions & findings.
All of these cigars were extremely well made with the Fuente IMO being just slightly loose of my norm.
Again all pre-draws were pretty damn good, I had to practice a bit on the Nub, just felt weird to start with.
The aroma was, I felt, sadly lacking with no definition ony any of the cigars but my sense of smell isn't terrific.
The Illusione gave me the first surprise, it was far stronger than I expected, instant spice & woodsy, trouble is that's how it stayed for the first half. I wasn't enjoying it so squished it with a couple of inches to go.
The Nub...tedious to say the least, not a bad flavour, again spicy from the get go. I just found this awkward to smoke (it did start to canoe!) from a handling point of view with zero development on taste.
I must say I approached the Fuente with expectations of doom, accompanied by a rush to the humi for a '05 Monte 2.
I couldn't fault this cigar as a stand alone offering, the burn, flavour, aroma throughout was totally acceptable. The initial spice/pepper on the first third made me think 'not again' but it started to become more mellow as it went through, even giving a sweet toffee flavour which I quite liked as it toned the spice down even more.
I won't try to cross match these to Cubans, there is no comparison other than they are cigars, on this outing (a learning curve for me) I would not personally dismiss NC's out of hand, I enjoyed the experience with the Fuente & am open to further ventures to the Dark Side...
