Dear Cigar aficionados. I was interested in getting your opinion on hand made cigars from the Canary Islands. I was there recently chatting to a local firm. They told me that their hand rolling heritage is as old if not more as anywhere in the Americas. Unfortunately very little tobacco is grown on the island and most of it is imported then hand rolled. I tried a few brands and shapes. They seemed pretty good to me.

I've had a few and they've been among my favourite non-Cubans. I've gifted some as taste testers and some people thought they were Cuban.--------------------------------------------------

Many immigrants to Cuba were from the canaries, and many headed back the other way after the revolution hence the cigar makers, particularly on La Palma. I've got some, they are beautifully constructed, burn and draw fantastically but I find them very bland and one dimensional flavour wise.

I have tried Canarian cigars which were made from Cuban seed and they smoked nothing like Cubans, probably due to the soil quality. The soil in Pinar Del Rio etc. is fairly acidic, which makes for good cigars."Keep your eyes peeled, your arse up, head down, and your ear to the gound" WHISKY77

Names Perro, el Perro, and when you need to relax, make it a genuine Habano.
