Just got back from Fox's with a few cigars to top up the humi...

Pack of 5 Trini Reyes (loved my first encounter - back for more)
A single each of Monte # 4 and Petit Edmundo
A brace of Fuente Short Story's - nice, easy stick IMHO
A matching pair of Padron 2K's - my favourite so far
Pack of 5 Monte Puritos (for a dog walking...)

Everything about cigars is good for the soul. Buying them, keeping them, looking after them and of course smoking them.....

The whole thing just seems to make me happy.

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em.

You know guys, I'm gagging to crack a Trini...I don't know how long I can hold off...aaargh!

Seriously, how on earth does one 'age cigars' - mine don't seem to get beyond the 'potty trained' stage, let alone puberty or even adulthood

                        Yeah, I guessed...

This is gonna end up more expensive than my wine hobby, isn't it? At least with En Primeur, the wine isn't delivered to you straight away - you 'own it' but can't drink it...perhaps someone could look after my proposed cabinets/boxes and mature them for me...

Quite possibly. It would probably require some careful research (essentially into whether it is possible to predict the quality of a tobacco crop's 'smokeability' in the same way that it is with grapes... i.e. are the specific meteorological conditions which produce more flavourful crops). Then you would need the marketing men from Bordeaux to get on board...

Of course the problem with cigars compared to wine is in the nature of the beast. You obviously have hundreds or thousands of bottles' worth of wine being created in one go, with a certain homogeonisation of flavours from all the grapes, producing more reliable, consistent products. Of course, a certain leaf will only impart flavour into the cigar that it has been rolled into (hence less consistency within a cigar box than a case of wine...) None-the-less, I think it should be possible to work out which years are likely to be better than others. I gather that 2010 seems to have been a popular year, and the guys down under seem to rave about 2006 almost non-stop...

In theory I think you've struck upon a brilliant plan. Of course it wouldn't work quite like en-primeur wine, as the cigars would already be in the box... (Then again, you could always gamble on crops before they've been rolled...) I think that it would probably be as much to give fairly well off guys the confidence that they won't smoke their box before the cigars have reached their prime as anything else.

Then again, as has so often been highlighted, I spend half of my life talking out of my arse, so take it all with a pinch of salt...
