  • De Olifant Tuit

I received this beautiful little box with 6 De Olifant Tuit just before the weekend:
DeOlifantTuit.jpgFrom a cigar friend in The Netherlands. They're absolutely great! The wrapper is Sumatra "Zandblad", a Java binder and the filler is a mix of Havana, Java, Brasil and Sumatra tobaccos.

De Olfiant Tuit used to sell a very nice presentation compartment selection box, of approx 22 assorted vitolas, ex Dutch East Indies You'll have to keep in with your Dutch friend The boxes came in very handy for keeping bit & pieces in

      Are these "dry" cigars?

Yes, they are very often considered/called "dry"; however, I have spent considerable time and effort to experiment with these small Europeans and have reached the conclusion that they, too, need humidification. Consequently I keep my humidors at approx. 60% rel.hum. so I can keep tropical as well as European cigars in them.

If one go under 60 the Cubans will dry out, if one go over 60 the Europeans will become too wet and spongy.

Sweden used to have a national cigar monopoly (which b.t.w. made excellent cigars!) and though their products were also considered "dry", the Swedish Tobacco Co. adviced customers to keep them in a humidor. (Swedish Tobacco Co. was in the 90's sold to Swedish Match and incorporated into that company. Now, what remains, is part of the new Scandinavian Tobacco Group in Denmark...)

I'll have to try one sometime. My experience of European cigars is not good. Too much cheap rubbish in my younger days.

I was gifted a box of the Corona Panatelas (I think). I have yet to feel the inspiration to fire one up.
