  • Back from Cuba

My mule has returned bearing gifts from the holy (cigar) land. She got all on the shopping list and chipped in with a little surprise gift of 10 from her visit to the drying sheds which were rolled on front of her.
Only disappointment was that the ones from my list are all cardboard wrapped and I was hoping for a box and a cab.
Thanks for all your recommendations on what to get. Looking forward to a long hot summer

That bundle in the palm leaf looks very nice. Keep a very close eye on them for beetles, they won't have had any treatment for them. Keep them separate from your other cigars if you can. If nothing shows up after 9-12 months in the ones you haven't smoked, you're clear. Alternatively, freeze them yourself. I'm sure there are threads on this board on how to do it.
I keep my custom rolled cigars separate from other stock, I always bring back a few beetles/larvae in them. No big deal, treat accordingly.

Ryan, thanks for the advice. How separate is separate? Sounds daft but I only have 1 50ct humi which does have a divider. Is that separate enough or do you mean in a completely different box?

I would advise freezing straight away. Put them in a good (well sealing) ziplock bag, suck out the air as best you can, put them in your freezer for 4-5 days, let them defrost gently .....that should do it.

If your house doesn't get too dry you can leave them in tupperware. I'm lucky, I live in an old house with an unheated hallway that stays cool and damp (60f and 60-65%) year-round. I leave my custom rolls in tupperware out there, along with quite a few other boxes in ziplocks, it dives my wife nuts. They age and smoke very well from there.
Alternatively, freeze them using Monkey's advice above. Whenever I have frozen cigars I used two ziplocks, 4-5 days in the freezer, then one day in the fridge, then one day room-temp, then take them out of the ziplocks and into the humidor. That'll do it.
