  • Duck! There's some BIG sticks incoming!

So then, I decided to try some big sticks.

    Postie dropped these through today:

I'll give one a go on Sunday once the domestic chores are out of the way.

These should be my last buy for a few weeks; the bug has bitten hard, as my wallet and full humidor will testify.
Maybe a small cab once I've cleared some room.

I was unfortunate enough to try these, got them cheap, but not cheap enough!
Please don't rate other Monte's by these, they are one of my favourite marcas & produce some fabulous smokes!
But having said that ETHO, I sincerly hope you enjoy them.

I heard they got a pasting on release but also with some ageing they come into their own.

I was at the launch night, oh dear.
"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock!"

I have a pal who loves the open's and a few have said they are getting better with age. I have avoided them for a few reasons... not least of which is the "golfing feel" in the marketing, but I'll be interested to know what you think.

It will certainly be interesting to see what you think about them, after hearing everyones opinions at the moment! I look forward to a review after the weekend!

well.... I sincerely hope you get on better with these than I did!

                  AGE them I should!

                    hey superbro,
as everyone on here has already said, they got slated on release!!! however, i'm sure i read somewhere recently that a forum member thought they turned into a decent smoke when they got a bit of age on them!!! anyway, what's important is what you think of them!!! granted, they're not gonna be in the same league as a monte 2 or an edmundo, but that's because they're different beasts altogether!!!

do let us all know what you think!!!

                    all the best,

                    alex

ps: mind you, i have to say, the packaging is handsome!!!

That's what buying based on brand alone without checking reviews does for you! At least they were on a particularly good discount offer when I ordered.
I'll give one a try tomorrow and if it's not great then I'll detube and age the other two; review to follow.

                        So then, just finished one!
I've not done reviews before and my palate is still not up to picking out flavours unless they are really pronounced; here goes anyway!

Construction and appearance are very nice, easy to light up and the first half was very mild and smooth with plenty of smoke. Around half way down the draw became quite tight and I had to relight a couple of times (not sure if this means it's plugged?) then it opened up again for the last third. I had a pint of water and a small Ballantines 17 YO to accompany which went down very nicely. Lots of leather, cream and almost vanilla flavours. I deliberately took my time at around an hour and a half with a puff every minute or so to avoid feeling sick which has happened a couple of times recently.

Being my first try of a big cigar I was expecting to be knocked over by the strength and flavour but it was almost too mild for my liking, still not too bad at all.
I'll detube and age the other two for a few months and probably will try my Bolivar Belicosos next to see how that compares.

Hi SB....nice review mate. You're going from one extreme to the other in terms of strength.....Bolivar are well known for being pretty much the strongest brand.....enjoy yourself but make sure you eat something first
