  • Finally, the contents are worth more than the humidor!

I tried some cheaper cigars last month looking for a cheaper cigar but comparable to a CC. Each time I tried something I just kept thinking of my favourite CC and they always came up lacking. So I cracked and purchased a cab of my favourite CC brand along with 4 other cigars to sample with an eye to buy a larger amount next month (if I wasn't a pauper before I am now!),

So here is my first cab of Romeo Y Julieta Coronas, I've removed the nasty "smoking kills" label.

Yes I'm just showing off now :P

The coronas are all in order, no worms or mould and that lovely RYJ smell of vanilla and chocolate oozing from them

From the left, Romeo y Julieta Belicosos, Romeo y Julieta Cazadores, Romeo y Julieta Duke Limited Edition 2009 and a Romeo y Julieta Prince of Wales cigar.

The bottom is my long time storage area where I hope to store some cigars for a while in order to age a little before smoking.

The top shelf is my line up for the next month and a bit before I have to rob a bank to stock up again

          It's an Adorini Venezia Grande,

It's a 150 ct humidor and I really love it.

RYJ suits me perfectly, the smell, the taste, the construction everything about them feels like class. The reason I prefer them over other brands is that they are the most relaxing. When I have a cigar, for the time I'm smoking it, all of life's troubles go away and I can relax. For me it's an escape from real life for an hour or so and for some reason I feel the most relaxed when smoking an RYJ. I can't explain why or what it is specificaly about that brand but it just is. That may change at some point but for now I'm enjoying them.

The only thing I don't like about RYJ is the price! However I can't say they aren't worth it, I need to win the lottery!

Excellent selection and humi you've got there.

I too favoured brands like RyJ when I took up 'cigars' (and still do!), the 'Duke' (IMHO) being an excellent example (like smoking a 'Black Forrest Gateau'), however, I'd be interested to know what you make of the Partagas line (if you haven't got around to it yet).

Put a Serie D No. 4 on the list for a comparison.

                  R&J Escudos?

Nice selection mate. I have never been a fan of the R&J TBH, however as i have previously stated, I am finding the 2007 Escudos a very nice smoke indeed at the moment.
Might be one for you to try out if you come accross them.

I've had a Partagas in one of the samplers I bought from C.Gars, I think it was too full of a cigar for me. I believe it would take a while to perhaps develop the palette to appreciate it? Although I've always had milder tastes which is no doubt why the RYJs appeal to me.

I've by no means tried out many cigars so will continue to sample brands (looking at a Trinidad for next month) and this forum is great for getting ideas. It seemed prudent to make a little investment each month to store away, I'll try a Partagas again later on perhaps when my palette is ready to appreciate a fuller cigar which I believe it isn't right now.

Definately one to try out next month for me, I'll try out other brands but RYJ just hits the spot and I've got to put something in that new humidor ... right?

El cat, would you be able to tell me a little more about the 'Duke', I've read a few reviews, but what's your take?

I'm not the cat but I love the Duke, give one a go, you won't regret it, best R and J for years IMHO.

Your "cab" is actually a dress box
(btw these coronas look good; try to age half of the box, you'll find that their taste is changing from good to excellent)
