    hey all,
way passing through belfast today and decided to call into miss moran's (belfast's only habanos specialist)!!! not a lot of choice as usual, but a couple of boyo's caught my eye!!!!
a/ por larranago magnificos (some sort of RE)
    b/ punch d'oro (english RE)
    c/ cuaba LE 2008

after a few minutes scratching the chin....... i dived on the cuaba!!! reason why? the owner said that the punch was a mild, balanced smoke!!! nil point!!!
the por laranga was, in his opinion, one of the best smokes around!!! medium bodied, balanced, refined........ nah!!!! nil point!!! the cuaba, he said, was a firey beast!!!! SOLD!!! i'll save you all the dirty, sexual analogy i had in mind....

also picked up a bolivar tubos no. 2........ couldn't resist it!!!!

    today, i'm a happy man!!!!

    alex

ps: reckon i'll be back in before the end of the week for that por larranaga

hey arf, no.......100% was the magnificos!!! i'm sure the londres was there as well, reckon it was about ?18!!! i actually went in with the intention of, wait for it, a monte no. 2!!!! lol!!! the 3 beauties i mentioned were all ?20.50 each, the monte 2 was ?18....... he even had cohiba piramides EL 2006 for ?26 (i think), cheaper than the siglo 6 (which was ?30.50)!!! trinidad fundadores ?22.50........ it doesn't seem as extortionate as a few weeks back (cohiba robusto ?22.50? ryj churchill ?22 etc etc)!!!

btw, sorry, they don't do mail order!!!!

chances are arf the prices will go up soon as he realises!!!! as i said a while ago, i was shocked when the cohiba robusto went from ?18.50 to ?22.50 pretty much overnight......

saying that, ?13 each for a RASS and VR famosos is bloody good!!! on the whole, most of his prices match ajay's (on the havahavana site)!!!! ah well, i'll try and call in on friday for the PL magnificos!!! i wouldn't have bothered only you pointed out it's a great deal........

                cheers,

                alex

Knowing sods law by the time you go back on friday the price will have gone up Alex :-(

If you can afford it, id buy his whole stock of magnificos and then wait as the price will only go up. :-D

The magnificos are great, refined, medium body and a bargain. I'll take as many as you can get at that price (send them down...i'll refund you plus a few sticks for your effort ).

The Cuaba is now amazing ..a real powerhouse and very underrated IMHO.

                      hey mo & monkey,
if i had the dough, i'd buy them all up for sure (saying that, there only was about 5-6)!!! i'll buy one to try on friday, if it's as good as you all say it is, then i'll try to pick the rest up over the next couple of weeks!!!

see, the thing is...... i've made no secret of my love for the bolivar brand!!!! the guy who owns the shop kinda referenced the cuaba piramides 2008 to a bolivar in terms of strength and taste, that's what kinda sold me!!! he said, in his opinion, it was 'a firey beast, one of the strongest cubans around at the moment'!!!

i'm pretty excited!!! shame really, i'm only getting a chance to have a charge at the weekend since i'm not seeing my son!!! anyway, so far i've got lined up the cuaba 2008, HDM regalios 2007, h upmann 2009, partagas especial 2010!!! the partagas will be the 2nd in 6 months, wonder if it's developed any?

                      all the best,

                      alex

well, to be honest, the shop is one of the oldest in belfast....... so it must be doing something right!!!! as gary can attest, it's pretty 'snug' with 2 large counters/ humidors framing the shop packed with boxes of quality cigars!!! i've never saw anyone buying cigars in all the times i've been in, mainly middle aged men buying pipe tocacco (he's loads of that) or chavs buying new, blinged up zippos!!! i'm sure that he gets his fair share of punters buying cigars, other wise he wouldn't stock them!! thing is, as i said before, he can't have more than around 30 different types of cuban in the singles drawer(big and small, cheap and expensive, tubed & untubed) and perhaps about a dozen different types of non cuban!!! there's nowt consistent about what he chooses to put on sale as singles!!! for example, a popular size, the robusto! you would expect to see, say, cohiba, partagas d4, h upmann connie 1, rass, jl2, vr famosos, bolivar rc, hdm epicure 2....... he would only ever stock maybe 3!!! i've never saw a jl2, hdm epi2 or h upmann in stock!!!! that's why i found it strange that he had a couple of regional editions and a few EL's in stock in his singles drawer!!!!

well, as i said, he only had 5 or 6 in stock (my guess is that they're from a box of 10)!!!! i can't promise anything (xmas around the corner etc etc), but i will try to pick up what i can and, if possible, we can organize a suitable trade!!! how's that sound? again, don't hold me to that.......

                            all the best folks,

                            alex
