Cigars had been off my radar for the past decade, but after seeing a guy in our basketball team using HF beads in his shoes I asked if he was into cigars We duly started a conversation about said cigars & my interest was rekindled.

Eager to find my old stock I beavered around the house to find what I rememberd I had in a tupperware tub. Not entirely sure how it got there, or when.

The hygrometers batteries had died so ordered some more and waited with anticipation to be able to guage just how badly I had kept these poor things in captivity. Propping up the hygrometer was a glimmer of hope....a small tube of (65%) HF beads, also sadly neglected.

I could barely remember what they were (apart from the two larger Partagas which were LE's from 2003 & 2004 (a wedding present from my wife in 2009))

20 years ago I had been regularly ordering from a retailer across the pond. Where I had found everything to be cheaper (even with shipping) than the UK, with MUCH more available (including accessories). I ordered myself & a friend a 50 count humidor each, then later a small aluminium travel humidor for our golf trips to Spain

Digging through some drawers where I kept my old paraphernalia I found some more HF beads and an old pot which had some humidity 'gel' in it which remnants resembled something more like a crusty leftover from Ghostbusters. The pot itself looked quite useful as it had a perforated inner lid, so it got cleaned out & re-filled with some HF beads

It didn't take me long to fall in love with cigars again. Tinkering with humidor and tupperdore set-ups has been interesting, while trying to revive some old sticks from over a decade ago.

This will be a slow burning thread (pun intended), as funds don't allow for power spends on boxes, so the majority will be single sticks as I journey through the vast selection of cigars available these days

To celebrate my rekindled fondness for the leaf, I ordered a couple of cigars from a brand that is new to me, but has already made a lasting impression..

Plasencia Cosecha 149 La Vega Robusto
    Plasencia Alma del Campo Robusto

Pretty excited to see what these taste like, and to try more from the recommendations I've had from the fine folk on this forum

I will add some pictures when they arrive

Very quick delivery from Smoke-King thanks to their annual delivery offer. Lovely looking sticks. The bands really set them off I think

Another purchase from the for sale section. Can I say, for a novice... what a great area, to be able to try out some of these smokes before going 'all in' on box purchases I for one am very grateful to all those that sell on excess stock. I wish I could afford more as there is some REALLY tempting stuff there.

Anyway, the sticks... Vegafina Robustos courtesy of pigpen

A interesting brand for me, these seem to be VERY popular in Europe so I'm keen to find out why

Damn....this CAD gets out of hand quickly 😰

I think it's starting to snowball. A friend's parents are visiting him from the States in October so he's getting them to bring over some cigars. He's very kindly allowed me a piece of the allowance, so I've opted for some of these. Under $100 for a box of 20

Yea, $47 a bundle is amazing value. I've tried the Maduro, but yet to smoke the sun or shade grown which are supposed to be quite nice

These MB3's are quite highly rated apparently so I have pretty high hopes for them 🤞🏼

No not yet. I guess I've been preoccupied with trying to get the best bang for my buck size wise, but have had more misses than hits. Unfortunately I'm massively restricted by budget so anything north of £20 is just too much to justify on one stick. I'm patiently waiting for the Oliva MB3"s and at under £5 a stick they sit much better with my budget, but alas they are hard to get at that price
