  • The Final Legs......

Over the Easter weekend, we finally got around to tackling the insulation OSB board and shingles on the roof, first job was laying the foam insulation

Then laying over the insulation with OSB board.....god these boards are damn heavy

Then came the job of finishing off with the red shingles.....back breaking work.....

Nearly finished, bar part of the rear edges and fitting the ridge shingles

Have added some Kef LSX speakers into the retreat, for streaming music......bit of a bargain these were!
Now we have just the ridges - back edges to finish off with shingle - install the air con and the the sofa should arrive in May to complete, then bar the final landscaping, she's all done!!

        • Big job well done by the look of things. Very posh speakers too!

Will you need to periodically treat the outside?

The speakers were a bargain, I managed to get hold of as liquidated stock, around 65% discount.

I will look to treat the timbers every 12 - 18 months. But the treatment can be sprayed on using one of those garden sprayers, which takes no time at all to complete

              • Interior Now Completed

Inside she's all kitted out now......

The nervousness, of drilling bloody great holes in the timber for the air conditioning - but all worked out well in the end. The unit was easy to fit, although as it's an all-in-one unit it weighed a ton. Using the supplied wall template, made marking out precisely and fitting a doddle.

and building out a frame for the inlet vent (below pic) to allow the vent weather shutter to open without fouling against the inside of the fan unit. I've built a frame and brass mesh insert which I am having made, will cover the vent openings to keep insects out.

And finally the corner/bed sofa was delivered. So inside is now complete.

The remaining jobs are to finish off the back of roof and ridges ( I ran out of shingles) and then landscape around the retreat.

                  • Very classy! I used a plastic sieve with the handle cut off as an insect shield, cheaper and washable.

                      • Really professional job there Vitola. I'm well impressed with your handy work. Are you a builder by profession? You could make a living out of constructing herf huts for folk. PS I like the rug, looks like a sliced onion.
