  • My little collection

    Hey folks.

Now that my humi is finally seasoned and I received PM privilege, I thought it might be a good time to start my own thread.

For seasoning I used 4 Boveda packs, they were left in humidor for about 17 days. Humidity sits at constant 88% (hygrometer is calibrated, shows 4% more), so just few minutes ago I took 84% packs and replaced them with 65%.

Couldn't take any good pictures with my phone now (it hates any kind of artificial light), but here is a picture taken just after I got it.

It's contents have changed slightly, now got only single NCs and few more CC. Can't wait till humidity gets down to 69 indicated to put the sticks in

PS Love my luck - as soon as I got PMs, I jumped like berserker to "For Sale" section, only to find out all the stuff I would buy is long gone .... But I know this wait will be deffo worth final result

I certainly hope so . Was already thinking about getting another one, so I could keep my cubans and non-cubans separately, but will wait a bit longer, till this one fills up.

      85 and going down

        Ground Control to Major Tom!

Nice job, Major Tom. I'm begining to realize that setting up a humidor is a complicated project. I'll be looking to you and others around here for assistance when I begin the process.

Question: What's the optimal humidity/temperature for storing cigars?

Follow up question, Major Tom: Why is it necessary to segregate Cuban and non-Cuban cigars.

From what I have seen, anything between 60 and 70% my friend. I personally go for 65 as I kept my sticks for some time at this RH and liked them that way.

With Bovedas it was not complicated at all. Just throw packs in (one pack per 25ct, which gave me 4 packs), calibrate hygro, stick it in the humi and leave it alone. This was the hardest bit .

            Edit, to your next question.
It is not . But as much as I like smoking itself, I also do like all stuff in common with hobby. This takes me on strange waters sometimes but hey, we only get one lap in life, why not make it a good one

I've got the same humidor, in fact it was humi number 2. It won't take long to fill up. Nr 3 was a scubador to store boxes in.

Imagine were you might be in a year....note it down.... Then next summer get ready to boggle by how much you've over shot it!! Nice collection. Coming together well. They look very tidy.

Looking good, it's a nice feeling getting a proper humi.

Don't stress too much if you find the RH fluctuating early on, it'll stabilise with the accumulation of more sticks.

I have the same humi so great buy mate and as BS mentioned, don't worry about the RH as I have done in the past (quite a few times) but it does sort itself if you leave it alone. My is now a steady 65% and happy.

You read my mind, it went slightly up since I've put sticks in and was wondering if I should wait a little longer. Now I checked and it's going down again, I'll just leave it for few days and in the meantime will look for some more to add

Modest part of me would say that I'm not gonna fill it in any near future. Normal part of me keeps thinking of how to convince Mrs that we need more .

                              So looking forward to it

Now I need to get rid of that white ugly thing and get Caliber or other hygrometer designed for humidors, also would be nice to try few different cuts and maybe some proper cigar ashtray....
