Terroir is a French word but it used by English speakers the same way as saboteur is.

Our school got split into 2 lots. The clever lot did German and the not as clever lot did French.
You may find this hard to believe but for some reason unknown to myself I was put in with the clever lot.
I know no French at all.

At my school we all did French for 2 years. German was only introduced in 3rd year as an O-Grade (yes, I'm that old)

The only reason I replied in French to Butters is that he's Canadian and seems to be multilingual and understand French

No need to explain mate. It was nothing and not really worth me bringing it up. Now I think about even though I did german for 5 years I am not sure I can speak a word of that either lol

I got put in the dumbass class, rather than concentrate on improving our French they started us on Italian!

Its all pretty useless. Everyone speaks English. The german government even set up a department for the preservation of the language because so many nationals weren't even bothering with it. Meanwhile a few hundred miles away british school children are sitting exams on it.

The really dumb lot got taught speaking basic Spanish and because they didn't bother with all the technical aspects they were able to concentrate on speaking it and therefore actually got it down to a t. They are now sorted when they go on holiday whilst I wasted 5 years and it amounted to nothing.


Before I started school my mum asked if they still taught latin and made a big song and dance about she would have complained if they did as it was a dead language.

I think I know more latin than german!
