  • Not so much new but what

I just wondered who keeps detailed records of there stock of cigars and what they smoke etc and how do they do it
I know Mr Bolivar has detailed records but I don't really keep any details unlike my wine and whiskey notes that I have kept for 20+ years
I have a good memory for what boxes I have but not so much singles in the Humi without looking
After receiving my smokes from tippex and reminding me of how much I used to love the party charlottes it dawned on me maybe I should tick off all the different smokes I have had over the last 25years
What do you do and how anal are you with this [emoji1]

I started, but it's just a chore. So now I just smoke and then buy more of what I like.

I simply smoke and if I enjoy it I either order more or make a note to do so.

              I keep slightly obsessive records

I don't find a particular chore to be honest as it's just a case of copying and pasting the notes I make durig the smoke (alrgough setting it up did take a while...), I also really enjoy reading back through them

I did post about it previously but can't remember where

                I'm terrible for this.
I keep a spreadsheet with loads of different info - one sheet for what's in the humi - one for what I've smoked - one for what I've got coming - one for wish list.
I use the smoked one to help figure out what to get more of, but also what's the best bang for my buck, as it were.
So all are scored out of ten, but then I use a formula including time, cost and overall score to give a relative score - Kind of like value for money.
                I don't get out much.

I got a cigar notebook as a gift, think I filled in details of one cigar then never looked at it again. I just like smoking cigars. Then when you think how different two sticks from the same box can be

Just found the other posts, I've made some changes to it (including the bit I mentioned about the boxes not quite working in the way I want)

I'm pretty sure I will be amongst the most obsessed on the forums

I have a spreadsheet that began when I started smoking cigars again. It started out small, but alas, it is now a very useful tool as I have a different sheet for each country that the producer of our fine cigars hails from, individual tasting notes on each vitola I have smoked from said producer. I have a sheet for the various cigar samples I am making my way through. I have a sheet for each of my two humidors. Current stock levels including producer, vitola and dates of each box, bundle or singles I have procured. When I started the Excel sheet, it was just the same as having a look back on what I liked, did not like....But then it has turned into a behemoth as each page of Nationality has the flag, for each producer their logo....It has gotten out of control......

Without doubt, it is not a chore. I enjoy it as it is a projection of how I think and work. As with say a box, cabinet et al. I will give it a few smokes before making notes as no two smokes from the same box can be alike. The joys of nature and of course the almighty Torcedor

Hmmm, well I have a diary of every Havana I have smoked since 07/01/00, although there are probably a few missing in the first yr or two; once I got into Excel I have kept full records. I have a list of each vitola smoked from 100pts (jsut the one so far) down to 75pts, listing details price, stock held & cost (um that's a little worrying these days). At the bottom of this list are the Vitolas in my humi's that I haven't smoked yet, & a list of the boxes I have & contents.
On another page I have my buying plan, I know this one amused Martyn. So basically I used to try & figure out how long a box of Hoyo No2's would last & then buy another box in time for them to be 5yo before I needed them. I have done this since 2004 but over the last few yrs with the collection buys it has gone by the board; I am now really just listing the buys as they happen. I did have a spreadsheet listing how often I smoked the cigars from boxes, to help me judge the when to buy but I have dropped this as well. So as you can see I am much more 'go with the flow' these days For an example I have just published for the first time, a list of what I have smoked so far this yr - on 'How do you chose what to smoke?' thread. As you can see I am not going to finish up my Hoyo No2's in the near future at this rate & I still have a spare cab . Like Groundhog I don't get out much, i.e. I am stuck offshore 6months a yr & do all this paper work out here to amuse myself. I just make basic notes in my diary at home & use my photos to check order smoked & if I have missed a diary entry.

Guess us cigar geeks have to stick together eh Ross, I mean it appears their are members out these who can just chose a cigar at random, enjoy it & not record it anywhere! I guess most of our members now take photos, if only to post on here. When I was on the old site, I was one of the first to do this & was getting told off for putting more than a couple on as the site couldn't cope with it. I noticed the other day I have put on 961 photos on thread on this site. Should be a good resource for others if they are accessible some how? Here's number 962, Martyn, can you remember the story behind this box?

Simon, my daily smoke notes are all based on yours. Very good method for me.

Nothing entered in October as all I've been smoking as of late have been Troyas, Half Coronas, Belvederes, etc. Nothing too special or anything I haven't smoked before.

Did have a punch ss no. 2 to break up the pattern, though. Very good
