  • Out of the starting blocks ...

Humidor is now resurrected, down from the attic, together with its 13 year old contents. Hygrometer recovered and being calibrated.

Added a couple of samplers. Not sure if I should have put new and old in together, but the condition of the old probably isn't as bad as I first feared. Time will tell, I guess.

Since my wife seems put off by the idea of me smoking anything larger than an Ikea pencil, though fortunately no longer by me smoking cigars, decided to start with some robustos and petit coronas.

    Happy days ...

Great stuff, those oldies are probably gonna be fine after a good watering.

Don't know. Always worth trying to bring new life to neglected cigar don't expect them to be the fine vintage smokes that they could have been with proper humidity control. I expect they'll be pretty flat but as you're just getting back into them what. Have you got to loose?

As Simon said Tommy, the oils evaporate with the moisture and can't be replaced like the latter can.

Monte No 1s (though it took me a while to decide - should've just measured them!).

Our house is a old stone pit manager's house and always a bit damp so it probably isn't as arid in the attic as in more modern homes. I've had a few of the No 1s and they're very pleasant, but that's based on not a lot of experience. I'll have to get a well kept one so I can compare and really see what's missing.

But, yes, it's nothing short of a miracle anything survived this long. So many times over the years I've thought about having a big clear out. What wasn't right for me 13 years ago is right now, so it's one of those times I'm glad I'm a hoarder!
