I did once see a pic of his collection, it was staggering. The one thing about this game is that to someone starting out buying their first 50 stick humi, one day having a collection of half a dozen boxes seems unlikely. Firstly that he would need them, secondly that he could afford them & thirdly that he would manage to a mass such a stock without terminal grief from the wife. Once you reach 500-1000sticks, you have answered those problems but to have a 3-5000 collection poses the same questions. Most of us never go much further but there are a few that do. If you read MRN, they are Hong Kog cigar lovers that have more cigars than most of our local shops but they wouldn't actually think of themselves as collectors!

Jeremy, I think that any items that aren't sold at the herf, will be offered for auction on here so those whocouldn't attend can have a bid too.

I guess it's all relative and as long as your enjoying your smokes it doesn't really matter what size stash your sitting on. To me 500 sticks would be dreamland but someone like Mitchell Orchant for example is probably used to standing in rooms with tens of thousands of sticks..... I guess you can only smoke one at a time anyhow and when you only have limited time to smoke you probably don't need the pressure of choosing a single from 5000 sticks.

very well phrased words Valet Udog Uy

i sometimes envy those blokes who have never been on a forum. they don't ever even think about getting a stick that's over a decade old. and they're happy with their B&M prices and all. they live in true blissful (for their wallets) ignorance. and they're happy when they can fit in a Monte 2 or Partagas P2. and they never NEED 500+ sticks at home either.......

VTG & Jeremy making good points, if your smoking 3 a day eg Nino, then you can plan ahead & know your likely to get through 40 boxes (unbelievable!) & one can imagine planning to squeeze in a few very old special cigars isn't so hard. I only smoke 2-3 per week, six months a year so it's often difficult to decide what needs to be smoked next. Like wine you don't want to keep some sticks so long their flav is tailing off & past their best. Which is not made any easier by continuing to buy new sticks!

Very impressive Si, well done matey. Care for or smoke is the decision now (nice one to have), but whichever way, enjoy .... oh, an' I calculate enough vintage review sticks for about 20 Forum years!
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Wid3y, Auction will be at the herf in Watford on 26th April. Lots not sold will be offered later on here but I imagine the best will go on the day; with 20 places left, those who can make it, send your ?20 deposit to RobustoClubHavana asap!

Just to let u know we bought his last 200 smokes I know for a fact his collection went for over. 10G what we have is a token to all the BOTL and are very lucky to have them me and ade go back over 10years and have smoked a lot together of the same smokes I am not going to keep many of what I got so to give u boys a chance to purchase some beautiful aged quality smokes at a great price I don't smoke enough these days to warrant the outlay however anything that does not sell at the cigar dinner I will happily keep for my own consumption and maybe offer some to those guys who cannot make it on the night

A pessimist might say 'watch for the roof bursting'

Just on a personal note would you say that obtaining these cigars from a personal friend enhances the 'pleasure' if thats the right word of when you do get around to enjoying them?

Bushi, Yep I would say so. Ade's cigars were bought over a period of time when members of the old club were organising split shares & having regular herfs. I have been lucky enough to have bought a couple of members collections when they gave up. I label the stick with their name, (as I do with Secret Santas) if known & think of them when I finally get around to smoking it.

Nice to have that sense of community too with the regular herfs!

Last Friday left my mother with my daughter & went for a quick smoke on my own, down the White Lion on a sunny afternoon. I took out a H.Upmann Aromaticos #1 from the 70's. SAM_4369.jpgTaking it out of the cellophane I held it up to the white wall to show how yellow the cellophane has become due to the oils staining it.SAM_4371.jpg
Cut crisp & pre-light draw fine, lit easily. Had this with a coffee & a Jamiesons. SAM_4372.jpgGood flavour from the start, steady burn, unpretentious, fine afternoon smoke or starter for a 2-3 cigar session. 87pts. More tomorrow.
