  • Some Aged Goodies - Guessing Game?

Here's a nice picture of the sticks:
    IMG-20130916-00970.jpg

Pretty sure Monks, Deano and them other friendlies have done this.. So let's have my go at it too, why not? The Exquisitos i have are nothing... I just really wanted to try Cohiba's Mildest. Fresh from 2005 (and one on the way to the UK, if i'm not mistaken ). But that's nothing compared to the centre stick.
Any lads wanna have a good guess at how old it is?

Hint: Don't try to google it. I'll tell you a bunch of bollocks about people wanting to get laid...
Here's a better hint, the box it came in:

          Between 1921 & 1935
A reasoned argument would put these after 1928 when the box litho changed to that in the picture.
1922 Excise stamps are notoriously hard to date accurately & were continued in use by some importers well after 1935, but in this case with the Port 50E on the notice it does keep them pre-1935..

I was hoping someone would come in with a real early date, so my guess didn't look daft but I'm going with early 40's.
            1942, June 13th around 10:30.

A few indicators for me. The box notice is first recorded appearing in 1897 so later thn then.

The next clue for me is the Cello cover. Celo only started to get used circa 1915 (not sure when first used on cigars).

Research suggests (as puffy mentioned) that the "Series of 1922" runs up to 1935.

So I am going for 1926.

We're not getting more accurate than this then!

I'm facking amazed at the knowledge between you and Monks. Pretty sure if you two (plus some other gents on here) were to write a book on the history of boxes, packageing, etc, your cigar hobby would pay for itself in no time! ;D
(let's hope I get to even a fraction of the way there. Lord knows I'm still stumbling around on the learning curve )

Ah hell. Almost forgot. 1922. Used to cost only 5 cents! Oh how times have changed

And like Deano and that joker Bagboy behind me, it's still bragging rights.

Unfortunately, but conveniently, it is going off the word word of the BOTL I bought it off. Course I'd never get sticks like this from shady people because storage conditions, know how, etc. He's got an awesome rep especially when other offers include Edmundo Dante 52s for 900 dollars and BHK56s for only 400 (all still too high for my liking).
I don't doubt the likelihood of broken telephone if this box has switched over 3 owners over the years but at least now I'm guaranteed a way to tell meself (still amazed you can with Post-wwi Canadian Cuban cigars!). I guess I'll never be 100% sure unless we know it's had one owner, or I bring it into a geologist

I was going to say 1922 with tongue firmly in cheek just because of the date appearing On the box!
