Party D4

Lovely looking smokes - enjoy them.

I've pretty much ignored D4's in the last four years or so. I remember when I first starting my Cigar Journey that the D4's were one of the first smokes I really fell in love with. However, after a few years I'm not sure what happened, whether the quality dipped or something, or my tastes started to change, I moved away onto other Robusto's as JL2 and RASS. However, earlier this year, after hearing some good things about recent production, I decided to jump and buy a box. I was impressed, most of the box were excellent, there were a few duds, but on the whole a lot of the flavour profile I remember loving back in the day where there again.

I've tried to love the PSD4, but it's just one of those smokes I don't get on with, but that's just me, and the greater majority of BOTL swear by them.

I think the thing with D4 is that becuase its a powerful blend, if it was rolled badly or if the quality of the leaf just nto there, you get harsh and unpleseant smoke, where as for the JL2 or the RASS (both of which I liked as well, in fact RASS is my go to robusto), when you get a bad one , its never as bad.

RASS is a (85 - 93) points cigar
PSD 4 is a (75 - 96) points cigar
JL 2 is a (87 - 92) points cigar

The best robusto i had was a PSD4 so was the worst !

Very interesting analysis Sean. I wonder how many other high- production sticks suffer in the same way ...I am thinking Monte 2/4's etc.

First one was harsh as hell possibly over humidified?

The second one was plugged and had construction issues

My first 5/6 sticks were also bad, but one day one D4, you just can't ignore it comletely..........somehow, lighter wrapper one does it for me...... i have had a 20 years old ultra dark looking one...it was an expereience but it nearly knocked my head off, the power and the aroma, roasted charcoal bbq pork/ beef ! you might think I am joking. but if you ever get a chance with a really old party d4 or lusi............you will see
