Cheers! It was a nifty fifty as these were taken in my room. For a ?100 lens, it gives really consistent results over and over!

Nice humi and sticks there

I think pretty much everyone on here has upgraded their initial humidor fairly quickly, the question is how much to upgrade in one leap.
I went from a 40 count humi to a 300 count, but because I realised after getting the 300 count I wanted to store them in their boxes I purchased a wine cooler and converted that for long term.

At the risk of sounding stupid, how easy is that do to?

It is more down to getting the right type of cooler, able to hold the temperature you want (around 18?C), it needs to be thermoelectric to avoid moisture buildup, also getting one that doesn't smell too bad as the plastic liner on the inside can niff rather badly at first. I just washed mine down with milton and left the door open for a few days.

Then you can just pop in some beads (I have 2 1/2 lbs in my cooler, its a 24 bottle capacity), or go the whole hog and line it with spanish cedar.

My cooler cost ?135.00 a year ago and holds roughly 20 boxes (depending on size & type).

That's not bad at all! How much power does something like that use during the summer?

I keep mine in the garage (joined to the house), it rarely goes over 18? so hardly ever kicks in. I haven't actually monitored it that closely though.

I don't actually own a camera... My dad is camera mad, so I borrow whatever I need from him. Currently favouring a Nikon D300 (much better camera than I am a photographer) with a variety of lenses and a Fuji X100. If you've not tried one, they are amazing! Just incredible results from it.

I'm strictly a Canon man :P - Nah, if I could afford it, I would love some Nikon gear......their night time performance is phenomenal!

I think I'll definitely work more on close up cigar photography as it wasn't as easy as I had first thought! (I kinda suck at macro photography :P)

If you scour ebay you can find broken wine coolers for 99p. I know a friend who has two. He never has problems with temp or humidity and they never run. His smokes are all great. It really depends how much humidor OCD you have. Try it, for 99p you can't go wrong.

Bear in mind you also need Beads to put in your cooler for humidity control:

Beads are available in the UK but that site has the calculator on which allows you to find the minimum quantity needed for the area you are trying to control.

More the merrier though as it will recover from being opened much faster.

As a guide, my cooler needs 1 1/2 lbs minimum but I have 2 1/2lbs in there, it never budges from 70%, I also fill the cooler with empty boxes, the more cedar in there the better.

At a later date I may go down the route of lining with cedar, just to get 'that' smell when I open the door.
