I went up to surrrey to visit family today and decided to pop into Farrants in Cobham to perus their humidor and pick up a few singles for the humi. their humidor is always well stocked and maintained and the aroma is nothing short of amazing. I would encourage anyone who finds themselves in this little Surrey town to swing by this unassuming looking newsagent for a browse.
I picked up a Rocky Patel Edge Maduro Torpedo that they just got in, my first Rocky and I'm impressed. It's a great smoke, very nice flavours and great construction, smoked perfectly and lived up to its promise
of a hefty nicotine kick. I also picked up an Oliva Series V robusto, I've had a few of these before and always found them to be a great cigar.
The real gems I got though are the Bolivar Britannicas and a Punch Medalla d'oro, te punch. Real bargain at ?15 as "I'm sure it around the ?20 mark, but if you sign the (plain box) petition...." I had already signed up online a I'm sure most here have so all in I paid ?64 for 4 very nice sticks. The Bolivar and the Punch will be spending some time in the humi waiting for a special occasion.
Talking to the staff there they are planning to create a specialist tobacconist "shop within a shop" to hopefully avoid the whole ban on displaying cigars, although the law on how this will work isn't exactly clear at present. I certainly would hate to have to look at a list to choose my sticks rather than spend some time browsing and taking in the colours, smells and experience of a proper tobacconist's walk in humidor.
