  • A Cuban Haul

Having returned from Cuba on Friday I posted a list of what I smoked in "Cuban Travel" I said I'd post pics of my haul - here they are

    I managed to bring back:

    25 Cuaba Divinos
    10 Partagas Mille Fleur
    10 Montecristo No.4
10 Montecristo Petit Edmundo - now 9 as I have just smoked one
    6 Sancho Panza Belocosos
    5 Vegas Robaina Famosos
    3 Partagas Serie D No.3 Tubos
    3 Troya Coronas Club Tubos
3 Punch Punch - now 2, I smoked one yesterday
    5 Partagas Chico
    20 Cohoba Mini

I wanted to bring another box either 25 Partagas Serie D No.3 or 25 Cuaba Distinguido but unfortunately I "lost" my wallet containing the balance of my cigar spend so couldn't afford them and had to settle for the Minis and Chicos.

Still, not bad eh? The Sancho Panza's don't come out well here so I might post a sexy pic of them on their own.

Now I have a couple of questions
    1. Do I put them all in the Humi at once or do I put them in in batches to allow the Heartfelt Beads time to keep the humidity stable.
2, Do I put the Tubos in sealed or open or do I take them out of the Tubes.

I also checked out a few prices based on Deano's price list and one I found on another site. I have them all in a word doc table that is really easy to use. If anyone wants a copy PM me and I'll send it on. I used it to help me choose and to check that prices were correct. It saved me about ?20 on the Mille Fleurs as I was able to challenge the shop assistant when she tried to charge me too much.

If you aren't planning to travel to Cuba it probably isn't a good idea to see what they charge for cigars over there. It will only upset you at the prices we have to pay here, mind you having spoken to a couple of Canadians we get a better deal than they do.

I'm going to do a price comparison between UK and Cuban prices for my haul. I know it's a bit anal but I'm building my business case to try and talk the wife into a sneeky week in Cuba sometime next year. Apparently our family holiday will be in Europe next time.

I have some pics from a cigar factory as well. I'll put them on the Cuban Travel.

If you want to be uber safe, put the boxes in a couple at a time, while housing the rest in an appropriate temporary environment with a good humidity. If you have nowhere else to put the rest in the meantime (which has a good humidity), I'd put 'em all in at once.

Personally, i prefer to store my cigars out of their tubes. It is surprisingly space saving, and it arguably aids the cigars to age better.

A little question of mine, how on earth did you get them all through customs to the UK?!? I was under the impression that the max was 50 cigars? Either that, or you payed a huge declaration taximajigger.

Nice haul. Big fan of the petit edmundo. As for tubos as far as I can tell some do and sone don't, personally I leave them in as that's how they would be stored in the store.

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em.

              Why The Delay?

Why wouldn't you put all your sticks in the humi at the same time? Isn't that what a humidor is for? Never used the beads, but again, aren't they designed to establish a stable environment in your unit?

I use Puck beads and they have never had a problem with large changes, I'd stick them all in and keep and eye on it. I generally don't buy tubos but if I do end up with a couple then I take them out of the tube altogether and put them in my desktop humi. I find sticks that have spent a long time in a tube pick up too much of a cedary flavour for my taste.

...Not to mention they take longer to age and get ready for enjoyment.

Now, having said that, don TJ leaves his the way they came....in the tubes. Which is why, when I'm "liberating" a stick or two from his massive unit, it always go for the ones without tubes.

Pssst! Keep that to yourself, pro favor!

Allowance is 50 each and yes I took the wife to ensure that I could bring the full 100 back. Alas my wallet loss meant that was beyond my means. See wives do have their uses.

Shame the kids are only 14 or I would have been trying for more.

Solution, when you go back, leave the kids with grannie/suitable carer & you'll have the money their flight would have cost to spend on more cigars. Once they are 18, they can come as long as you get their cigar allowance & they pay for their extas from pocketmoney/earnings. Aye, we spoil them something rotten these days
