Haven't been around the forum for a while....... (been into pipes recently; a new thing for me to compliment the havanas!).... so I'm in Walthamstow E. London; whole place shut down earlier on because the local shopping "Mall" was ransacked by some of these fine specimens of humanity. Cars cruising around here with occupants scanning for looting targets... lovely. Friend of mine runs a small modern vintage boutique just up the road; he shut at 3.00 this afternoon because he simply can't afford to take the risk.
Here's an idea.... isn't there a now disused prison ship anchored somewhere? how about herding these "people" into holding pens (since all the cells are apparently full), then cart them off to this ship and setting them sailing.... just let other countries know what's on board in case they manage to navigate towards a shoreline somewhere. be like Lord of the Flies or something....

either that or just shoot the fuckers with bullets.

Thanks for sharing that Puff, I had missed this. Going off at one hell of a tangent now... this is precisely the reason why (even as an ardent Tory) I dislike with a great intensity Cameron and his Cameronistas. If you're a Conservative Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, then your traditional support (and I believe the country in general in this instance) wants you to LEAD the country and make decisions, especially with regards to law and order. I worried about this before he became PM, and have continued to do so since he became PM. He is not a leader, he is a populist (admittidly a populist who has made some tough decisions)...

"I'd best hold back and wait to get a feel for the country's mood before I make a decision..." Please... grow a set of balls and make a proper decision. I'm not too bothered what decision you make, just show you're capable of making one!

It's complete crap and needs stopping quickly and with strength.
Fortunately London seems to have quietened down overnight but Manchester and Birmingham are still copping for it.
Abroad at the moment but coming home today. *Ashamed at how England looks to the world at the moment.

Hope everyone is still O.K & not suffered any losses in this stupidity...
Unfortunately we will now have days of hot air & little political spats,

and guess what? Next to nothing will change!

Sensible people predicted this social unrest (I use that phrase carefully!) & nothing has been done.
Idiotic words like "winning our streets back" & "regaining power" are just more of that hot air.
Don't blame the cuts - we knew they were coming:
This disorder is caused by our own society being too soft on this & the next generation & making their expectations way too high..
Youth today, & I won't say all of them; need to realise if you want something out of life you have to put something into it, not go out to loot & vandalise.
The bastard thing is...we stand back & watch & will end up paying for it financially & otherwise!
Political correctness my arse! If my son had been involved in something like this I'd disown him, beat the shit out of him & take the consequences ...anyone who even thinks that is wrong needs to look seriously at themselves...or will they be too busy buying their sons a new Plasma TV.

Apologies for my rant..I'm just so angry about all this avoidable crap in this country...that wanker Cameron couldn't even be bothered to initially cut short his holiday! & I voted for his party! but trust me Labour are no better..................

I got hit by a stone last night on the way home from work. Wasn't anywhere near the center of Nottingham and I have no idea whether it was connected to anything else that is going on. 4 scrotes hanging around by a railway bridge I walk under waited until I got past them and far enough away before throwing 20+ stones at me, 1 hit me on the back of my collar which, being the most padded part of anything I was wearing, barely registered.

4 of them vs 1 of me...... I just carried on walking. No way was I going to risk getting myself hurt more, I have enough trouble with my back as it is.

On the way into work this morning, the bus comes past Canning Circus police station which was hit by a fire bomb. Not a lot of damage, a bit blackened by the doors and taped off with a (rather nice) police woman out front. A fair few shops are still boarded up along Clumber Street but other than that, everywhere looked pretty normal.
Lo there do I see my Father. Lo there do I see my Mother, and my Sisters and my Brothers. Lo there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning. Lo they do call to me. They bid me take my place among them, in the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever.

Just an update on the insurance question I raised, Milliband this morning was talking about getting the insurace companies to fast track payments & help people start to rebiuld their lives so perhaps with political pressure in this instance, the insurance companies may pay out.

Can it be a riot now the riot act is not part of British law? Doesn't it have to be declared officially as a riot, not just some scum trashing stuff?

I am hating the term 'riot', to me a 'riot' is a protest ...there is no protest here, this is just looting!

I would call a protest a protest; and wanton destruction, vandalism and risk to life a riot. I don't see why there needs to be a connection between the two. Granted, a lot of what we have seen is simple break-ins/theft on a massive scale (looting), but there has been some rioting too...

Incidentally, I've just returned to Plymouth from Gloucester. I live very near to the main police station, and it was just about the quietest night I've ever had! Meanwhile, in Gloucester there was some small scale rioting, and, by all accounts, the only building which was set fire to was due for demolition anyway! They're either bloody morons (my bet), or rather altruistic chaps...

If I ever get enough money together I'll be leaving this country these riots are just a symptom of the disease that has infected this society. I'm sick of ultra liberal facism and political correctness along with being a third class citizen in my own country. All those kids looting have been raised in a child centered nu Labour educational system is it any wonder they feel they're merely taking what is theirs by right? Everyone has rights today accept for law abiding tax payers, I can't even smoke in a bloody pub anymore but I can pay taxes to re house the scum that burnt down London whilst David was on holiday in Tuscany. Anyone who stays in this country any longer than they have to is either very rich, very poor or a mug.

I couldn't agree with you more, Agricola...the new-labour scam certainly worked well for the rioters, as did the apologist liberal agenda we've had shoved down our necks for the past 20 years, or so...I can't believe the so-called political and social commentators are still trying to blame the inequalities on society itself.

I guess it's my fault that I grew up in a new-town, from parents that started out in a 'post-war Britain' with nothing other than a desire to improve their lives. I left school at 16 and went straight into full-time employment and have worked every day since...26 years so far. Like most on here, I've had good times, bad times, luck (both good and bad) but above all a sense of common decency at my core - where I am today is solely because of the values my parents instilled in me and my sisters...but I suppose that's not representative these days, if you believe what the liberals tell us...or is it...?

Agricola, you've hit the nail on the head. I've told my parents that as soon as I finish university I have strong intentions to move to Saudi or France. A couple (friends of my family) went to Japan last year and when they came back all they said was how the Japanese society is leagues above ours. A few of the points they stated were:

Children will never cross a road until the green walk light somes on, i.e. discipline has worked.
There is no litter since everybody has grasped the concept of the bin.
Police officers have no grief off anybody and they said that no matter what career a person has (in reference to the hotel doorman), as long as you play your part in society you gain respect for actually working and contributing.

I was fortunate enough to attend a school where there was no disruption, students were encouraged spend spare time researching particular interests or playing sports (I think boxing should be introduced into the sports curriculum as it does give those willing to learn discipline) but I think our education system failure is completely to blame for the degeneration of modern British society.

I'd like to state also that I was brought up in a very old fashioned, traditional household. By that I mean that I was taught not to speak until spoken to, respect your elders, no back chat and all of the rest of it! I think the reason education has failed is due to the fact that there is no discipline within the system. If a student is causing a scene in a classroom then they should be disciplined, schools are for learning.. not running riot!

The riots have demonstrated the dangerous levels of degeneration within our society, I have family in London and I was at a family BBQ last year, my cousin had some friends over and I think I have more GCSEs than all 3 of them put together (I've got 9, this is the norm for a university student these days) but I couldn't help but think to myself "all these girls have got on their minds is getting pregnant, going out clubbing and shopping" all off of the tax payers back! Could you imagine if I mentioned the term "quantum mechanics"? The majority of young people within our society only want to take it easy because a friend has a council flat and gets ?x from the dole every Thursday.. I remember reading recently that a woman with 10 children didn't think ?30,000 a year was enough from the tax payer, is she taking the pistol or what?

I don't even want to mention politics, I'm not a fan of politicians.. sadly both my parents are.
