"There was speculation as to whether Mrs Obama would bare her arms". (BBC News).

    Lordee, it's a worry!

My wife told me on TV last night that Michelle had sort of hugged the Queen. Touched the Queen. This touching is a no no, but how great to think of taboos tumbling!

Barack is a lad and a half dishing out DVDs to Gordon Brown and now an iPod to the Queen. The Queen's grandsons have made sure she has mobile phones to be able to ring them in Afsghanistan and Shoreditch.

We seem to get a semi on about iPods and MPs' husbands downloading filth flicks whilst the Home Secretary flits between abodes.

    Jackie's Plug - Yours for 86p.

The DAWG and I were laughing because most Brits will be finding the porn film trauma very funny. I can't think of anyone who would be really appalled at that story, and if I did know someone who was appalled by it, I'd rather not know them at all.

The Queen will have a drawer full of iPods and will find it funny that we think she hasn't already got Iron Maiden on shuffle.

Most of the people here (the US) think giving Gordon Brown DVD's that don't even work in the UK was a completely embarassing and giving a Head of State DVD's is kind of low class. Same goes for giving a Queen an IPOD. Just low class.

Least you didn't give us a Red Button with "Bugger off" written on it in Welsh!!!

Spose we should be thankful for small mercies.

Never, most folks in the US love the Brits.

What's the deal with this Red Button thing. Who did that?

Politics and Fine Puros Don't Mix

I smell the stench of politics sneaking in here.

          Please! Mates and Amigos...

...I beseech ye, leave the politics to the other forums, like CA.

Remember TJ's Rule No. 4 ( or is it No. 3?) - Fine Puros and Politics Don't Mix!

Names TJ, TJCoro, and I a bit sad to see politics rear its ugly head on this super fine forum... But that's just me.

I saw a thing on the news about 3 weeks ago where Mrs Clinton gave the Russians a button with russian lettering on it, it was supposed to say "Reset" (to re-set the US/Russian relationship) but who ever did the translation got it wrong and instead it said "Your grandmother overcooks her cabbage" or something similar.

President John F. Kennedy is often quoted as announcing "Ich bin ein berliner!" to the Germans. It supposedly means "I am a bagel." I'd say that if that is true, that takes the cake as far as U.S. presidents embarrasing us. We do that enough on UK cigar forums.

What's embarrasing, senor Larry, is that a citizen of the Land of the Always Right would perpetuate such a myth.

Looky Looky at what I googled

"In fact, Kennedy's statement is both grammatically correct[4] and perfectly idiomatic, and would not be misunderstood in context."

"The indefinite article ein can be and often is omitted when speaking of an individual's profession or residence but is necessary when speaking in a figurative sense as Kennedy did. Since the president was not literally from Berlin but only declaring his solidarity with its citizens, "Ich bin Berliner" would not have been correct In fact, Kennedy's statement is both grammatically correct[4] and perfectly idiomatic, and would not be misunderstood in context. Names TJ, TJCoro, and sometimes I just gotta' set the record straight for mis amigos to the norte.
